    • Easy to Set/Retrieve - 17ft Bass Boat

Occasionally I receive an item that exceeds expectations, this Danforth/Fluke anchor made the grade. The parameters of my requirement: - 17ft Bass Boat - Average Lake Depth: 25ft, ranging from 60ft mid-lake to 5ft in the weeds - Average lake surface: Mostly clay/mud/sediment. Most lakes are man-made, so rocky rip-rap surfaces around dam areas. - Average wind; 10MPH - 20MPH (every day), current is relatively low except around dam inlets/outlets and spillways. Product was not tested in rivers. The Device: - Danforth (fluke anchor) 13lbs, polished steel. 12" Spades can swing approx. 6" in either direction; each spade has raided edges that are opposed to the other, the intent is that the edges pull/dig in opposite directions forcing the spades deeper in the surface vs riding on the top. 5ft medium duty chain included an 100ft of medium quality marine rope. Performance: (Pros) - Lies flat for transport - Polished surface keeps it clean, it usually clears of mud when its retrieved. - Holds secure with as little as 3:1 rope to depth ratio (assuming setting proper technique is used). 5ft chain is heavy enough to keeps shank on surface for setting the anchor. - Spades swing easily, joints/spades are machine welded with clean even adhesion and no gaps. - Retrieved easily even after a hard-setting in deep mud with weeds. Performance Cons: - Instructions are not very good, but fortunately it’s only a few parts. If there is any confusion about how its assembled, look at the final product photos in the listing and not in the instructions. -Rope quality is not great, but sufficient for average use. I would not let the rope drag on the boat edge when deploying/retrieving to prevent rope damage. Overall, this is an excellent product and provides a higher-than-average cost/value. Make SURE you choose the proper anchor for your needs, Danforth/Fluke anchors are ONLY appropriate for mud/soft type surfaces. ... show more

Just a few parts needed to be put together but not difficult at all. The included chain and rope are great to complete the package. All seems to be of good quality. The only issue we had was the fact that the edges are very sharp and should and could have been filed down some. A couple of the plates did not align exactly perfect but then it’s an anchor so no big deal and it still aligned well enough to get it together and be able to use it. ... show more
