I have purchased single remote controlled units in the past and have given them as gifts. They are especially nice for turning on/off lights on the other side of the room. I wanted to find a remote set that I could use in different rooms around the house. This 5 piece set was perfect for setting up my living room and bedroom using the same remotes in one set. Two pieces set up in my bedroom on the second floor and three pieces set up in my living room on the first floor. One remote upstairs and the second remote downstairs work perfectly and both remotes control all outlets. You can turn on the bedroom lights before you go upstairs and once upstairs you can shut off the lights in the living room downstairs. I love the fact that the outlets are numbered to correspond to the remote. This makes it much easier to diagnose problems and reprogram the outlets. Most outlets were programmed to the remotes when unboxed, but a couple needed programming. It was simple just following the included instructions, and once programmed everything worked perfectly. I'll start with my only complaint -- when you plug a device INTO one of these remote outlets for the first time, you may find it takes some effort to align and push the plug in. The metal contact clips are either too tight or not enough of an angle on the insertion side. But, these are the type of thing that once you plug a device in, you pretty much leave them, so only a small issue on the initial installation. I did not have to do any "pairing" with the remotes -- all five outlets worked right off the bat. The remote is simple, and best of all, obvious. I use this product to power up 5 jukeboxes in one room, saving me the inconvenience or reaching down to floor level to turn them on and off. I'm very happy with the purchase. ... show more

The outlet switches are smaller than the heavy duty ones I was using to control some household devices. They all work great and are not a cymbersome eyesore, like my previous ones, while plugged in. The reason for only 4 stars is that one of the remotes has an inoperative button. I liked the easy of set up. I have 5 plugin lights in my living room and this works on them. I like having 2 remotes so that one can be at the door to the room and the other in the room for adjustments.
