    • Exactly what you need it for

I poured over rangefinders for a few weeks and tested a number of them out at big box stores and finally compared my device (this one) to my buddies. To cut to the chase, the BlueTees S3 Max does everything you want a rangefinder to do. If you don’t want to spend $400 or more, take a hard look at this option and I’ll tell you why: 1 - optics: the optics are very good. Clear, good magnification to see the flag. The Coolshot II stabilized is better at the same distances, Bushnell is slightly better; but I preferred these optics to Precision Pro NX9 and others. 2 - Display: Love the red display so far seeing as both days were overcast. Again, the Coolshot II stabilized and Bushnell Pro XE also have displays that are red and can be seen clearly no matter the lighting. 3 - Accuracy: this device has been right on par with the other top of the line devices I tried and compared in play with my fiends devices from the same distance. 4 - slope: feature works great, same as others. 5 - size: slightly wider than other devices with similar specs. However, fits in my hand nicely. It’s not heavy like a Bushnell, more on par with the weight of the Nikon. 6 - cost: hands down winner, $150 or more cheaper. Caveat - I’ve played 2 cold, windy rounds with the device. I can’t speak to long term durability, but all is well so far. If anything did happen to this device, I would personally opt for the Nikon Coolshot II stabilized as you really can’t beat how clear and stable the view is if your hand is shaking or wind is gusting. I personally don’t mind hitting the flag 2-3 times quickly to make sure I’m confident in the number when the pin and flag are whipping all over the place. It is quick and the flag lock function was solid. I think this is a great value, and for me, seeing as I use a golf app and Apple Watch as well, saving the $150 to spend on other items works. The only reason I didn’t jump to the Nikon is the lack of a magnet for when I’m riding and how small it was in my hand. I liked the BlueTees S3 Max the best out of anything under the $400 threshold(feature packed and reasonably priced). I have played 6 rounds of golf with the Max 3 and overall I am satisfied with the performance. There is definetly a learning curve involved. I play most of my golf at two courses - one of the courses just put in new flags and for wahtever reason they didn't get flags with the "reflectors" - sometimes I have to shoot 3 or 4 times to get a reading that seems accurate. The other course I play at has the reflectors in the flagsticks and I get "locked in" with 1 or 2 attempts. My friends with other brands of lasers experience the same thing. My first round I was struggling until I realized I had the mode set at "scan" instead of "golf" - huge improvement getting flags when I fixed that! I appreciate receiving the extra batteries, one of my friends has a laser with "lifetime battery guarantee" but you have to contact them every time you need a battery. His laser quit two weeks ago, he is still waiting on his battery, and he is using one of my batteries! The magnet is very strong and overall the device is easy to hold & operate. ... show more

Flag lock is horrendous. Constantly taking 5-10 tries to get the flag lock to tell me the distance of the flag and not the trees behind the flag. Only useful inside of 150 yards unless you have 20 seconds to spare every shot trying to get the correct distance.

Love everything about this rangefinder, especially the red display. Super easy to use, and the scan mode is extremely beneficial.
