Words cannot express how much we love this food. Being that our beloved dogs rely on us to feed them a quality diet, we only feel comfortable feeding them the best we can. Aside from cooking them a specially made meal, or buying one of the new refrigerated meals, we feel blue buffalo wilderness is the best you can get. We have a beautiful, loyal bloodhound we feed the large breed formula and a loving goldendoodle puppy we feed the puppy formula. Our bloodhound has a beautiful coat and at the age of 5, which is getting up there for his age, he's still very active and happy. We see no signs of any joint problems and he's never been sick. This food has served him very well. As for the goldendoodle, when we got him from the breeder, he was 8 weeks old and eating taste of the wild, which is another high quality grain free food. His stool was softer and he had a bowel movement 4-6 times a day making it difficult to potty train him. I initially was going to wait till he was older to switch him to blue buffalo but due to the difficulty training him due to the amount of movements he had I went ahead and started switching him over by blending blue buffalo in with his meals. I expected that by doing this his stool would get softer due to the transition but it was just the opposit! The more blue I mixed in the firmer his stool and less movements! I ended up switching him completely within 4 days because he was doing so much better on the blue buffalo wilderness. It's been a couple weeks now and he only has 2-3 bowel movements a day instead of 4-6 and is almost completely potty trained. In addition, when we got him, his coat was a dull red. I hoping within time this food will shine up his coat like it does for our bloodhound. To sum this up, you can't go wrong with any variety of Blue Buffalo Wilderness. It's a great food with excellent nutritional benefits. It cost more than your average grain free food but is worth every penny. You will find you feed less of it and also have less stools without sacrificing the health of your beloved friend. ... show more

I thought I'd throw in my two cents on the Blue Buffalo Wilderness Grain dog food (Salmon) and try to put a review together. Unfortunately, probably the most important aspect would be the taste, and how could I know if the taste is any good. So, I asked my dog Jethro what he thought about it. He just looked at me, shook his head, and walked away probably thinking what a moron his master was. So, the next step was to get his reaction when I actually fed it to him. He usually just nibbles around his food and goes back and forth all day until it is done. He devoured this stuff! Thinking it might be just the novelty of it, I kept watching him as I took him through two large bags of it, and as far as things looked, the honemoon never ended for him. He loved the stuff. I originally started him on this food because he's part Spaniel and has skin issues. I'd read good things about this brand, and thought I'd give it a try. Even after a couple of bags of this along with Salmon Oil, he still seemed to be having skin issues. I paid out the $500 for the allergy test, and found out that he's allergic to both chicken and lamb. And, even though this food is billed as Salmon, it still has chicken meal in it. So, I had to move him to something else. Now, I've got him on the Blue Buffalo Basics, and he seems to be doing much better. So, that wasn't a knock on the quality of this product, it just turns out my dog had a couple of weird allergies. I will say the smell of the Wilderness Salmon is very loud. If the bag is open, I can smell it throughout the house. Thankfully, it comes in a foil-type bag. I advise getting a couple of large chip-clips to make sure it stays closed not only to stay fresh, but to also knock out the stout aroma. This is a great quality food, and barring any weird allergies, I'm sure your dog will love it and thank you for it--if he knew how! ... show more

I have two furry babies- a maltipoo & a lab shepherd. I can't buy the small v large breed kibbles and have transitioned my little ones to/from Natural Balance, V-Dog, and other formulas of Blue. Their most recent formula was the Natural Balance Ultimate Premium (something to that extent- the blue and white/orange formula) and when I went to a local pet store to look for goodies for my little ones, I ran into a very well informed sales rep who specialized in foods. He said that the Natural Balance had changed a lot of hands with respect to manufacturers and the formula had been going downhill as a result. This finally clicked for me because about 6 years ago, my little one would mind the Natural Balance Vegetarian formula yet alone the other ones. But in the past few tries, hey would not even touch it without adding canned food or mix it with human food. This didn't go well with my lab shepherd because he has severe allergies and his vet instructed a strict ingredient adherence- basically no mixing chicken with beef or with turkey, etc. I was really hoping to find a formula that they would eat without having to starve themselves for days trying to beg for human food from their grandparents who always cave and feed them food that clearly tastes great but eventually makes them sick. With this formula, it was a huge hit! I no longer have to mix the food with anything else and the little ones get to stick to the cleanest protein (I would have loved for them to love V-dog but they lost interest in non-animal protein foods unfortunately). The kibbles, as with the other Blue formulas are perfectly sized and work really well with both dogs. Small breed to large breed, they're perfect! ... show more
