  • Great game!
Super fun game that makes fractions easy! The game is colorful, the monsters looks fun and there are so many ways to visualize the fractions. This game makes fractions easy!

  • My 8-year-old loves it.
I held of writing this review for a few weeks because I wanted plenty of time to try it out. I'm a math teacher by profession. When I saw this game at an NCTM conference it caught my eye and had to try it out. Here's my overview: Clever: This is a clever game. Some serious thought went into the rules. Engaging: A game is supposed to last a half hour. So far this has been a little shortsighted. This game takes a bit longer but it maintains my kids' interest. We keep playing it. Instructions: The instructions lack a little clarity. In addition to reading through them myself and keeping them close to me through a couple of games, I also handed them over to my genius son who deciphers game instructions with the skill of a codebreaker. Once you get the instructions down though, the game is easily playable. Math: Each card contains multiple representations of the fractions listed: fraction, decimal, pie graph (pizza). I was a bit concerned that the presence of so many representations would take the thinking out of the game. There is a bit of a balancing act here. I think that each card does not need to be so explicit, BUT there are still plenty of opportunities to reason with fraction operations. ... show more

  • Great fraction practice
What a fun way to get your kids to practice math! The customer service was also great after we lost our instructions. They sent us a new set of instructions for free! There are more things to practice with this game, money, tax, tips. It's a great game!

  • Math Teacher and Tutor Approved!
As a 6th/7th grade math teacher and a math tutor for upper elementary through algebra, I am always looking for new ways to engage struggling and reluctant mathematicians. This game does it! It is a silly and engaging game that has many different elements that I appreciate. There are fraction and decimal equivalences listed on each card to reinforce those skills. Pizza cards are color coded to show if they can be simplified which is helpful when working on equivalent fraction values. I also like that the pizza cards are shaded to helps kids easily see if they are making combinations to be less than, greater than, or equal to 1 whole. The pizza stealing monster cards upped the ante and made students think critically and strategically about the moves they made. I used this game in math small groups during class and in tutoring sessions with a student who needed a confidence boost. Two thumbs up from each kiddo along with many laughs and requests to play again. I will say to anyone interested in this game- watch the game play video! There are a lot of elements to this game that work well together when you get the hang of it, but can be a little intimidating at first. Shuffle well the first time you play to get a better representation of the cards throughout game play and get ready to make as many pizzas as you can! ... show more

  • Fun game, more complicated than it looks!
Watch the video and play a mock game while figuring out the rules before you play a real game. There is more to this game than it seems at first. Good strategies for breaking up fractions. The unusual card shape is cool, but difficult to shuffle. The colors of the cards took some getting used to. A player wants to focus on the color of the card being the same type of pizza, but in fact the color of the card corresponds to the fractional part of any type of pizza. I would play this game with higher level math students in 5th grade, because it's not only the math involved, there is a lot of strategy. It's better with more than 2 players. ... show more

  • Pizza and Monsters Score With My Kid
On Fridays, we like to kick off the weekend with family pizza night followed by Smackdown Wrestling (don't judge). I have previously purchased Election Night from Semper Smart Games and it was a hit. When I saw Blobby's Pizza was available I thought it would be the perfect addition to fill the time between dinner and Smackdown. This game perfectly reinforces the math he is learning virtually at school. At first, my daughter was too busy being 13 to be interested in anything involving her parents. However, after hearing my son's excitement as his monsters, especially Blobby, devoured all of my pizza, with a little help from my conspiring wife who liked stealing my cards, I think she will be playing soon. Since playing last week my son has asked to play several more times. I invented a few backstories for each of the monsters and gave them unique catchphrases (I stole that idea from wrestling) to add to the entertainment. There has been a lot of trash talk around the house in anticipation of Friday. This game comes in a very cool looking box that would make a great gift so I bought another for a friend with the hope we can find a way to play it over Zoom this winter. Even if you are lactose intolerant you will like this game. ... show more
