  • In comparison with TOKSEL Visible Bluetooth Music Receiver
I purchased the Blackstar TONE:LINK Bluetooth Receiver to be able to play my FireTV Audio over bluetooth out to studio monitors via a Motu M4. The package went missing, and after the waiting period, I ordered a replacement. In the meantime, I thought I'd try the TOKSEL Visible Bluetooth Music Receiver, Bluetooth 5.0 Aux Adapter with OLED Display Screen, CVC8.0 Noise Cancelling, Handsfree Calls, 13-Hour Battery Life, 3D Surround Sound for Car Home Stereo, which came two days before my replacement TONE:LINK. I was a little disappointed with the TOKSEL receiver because I kind of hoping for a larger gain than the headphone output of the monitor the FireTV is plugged into. I have a TRS 3.5mm to dual 1/4 TS splitter cable plugged into the Bluetooth Receiver. The 1/4 TS pair is connected to the 3/4 Line-in on the Motu M4. I had had the studio monitors volume at 50% and utilized the gain on the Motu M4. However, I couldn't hear much if anything when driving from the 3/4 Line-in inputs. So I increased the volume on the Studio Monitors to 80% and with the Motu M4 output dial, I get the quality audio I was expecting. I was happy to finally receive my TONE:LINK today. As soon as I unpackaged it, I plugged it into the USB charger on my APC UPS where I had the TOKSEL plugged in. I quickly noticed that there was a lot more gain built into the TONE:LINK which made me very happy to swap out the TONE:LINK. But I didn't get too far -- I was getting choppy audio. It's gotta be the difference in the bluetooth technology stack; version 3 vs version 5. It's also possible that the dangling FireTV Stick does not have line-of-site to the Bluetooth Receiver. Maybe if I had line-of-site, the audio from the TONE:LINK would not be choppy. I'll experiment at a later time. ... show more

  • Works well as Bluetooth input
Simple to use and interfaces quickly. Use it on a boss katana amp to play backing tracks and drum parts from garage band eliminating multiple wires

  • Handy bluetooth receiver easy set up
The ToneLink bt receiver is simple to set up, and a great audio connection. It goes into sleep mode until an audio signal is sensed, so some initial audio can be truncated. I.E.: If you use it for car directions broadcast from your phone you may not hear the initial instructions, unless you're listening to another audio signal at the same time - like music or a podcast that is constantly streaming. A minor inconvenience. ... show more

  • Makes popping noise and audio is interrupted
I bought this item with the hope of playing my backing tracks from my iPad. The unit makes loud popping noises and the music interrupts continuously. Very disappointed. Given all the good reviews, I wonder if there is something wrong with my unit.
