Description

Personnel: Jake Pitts, Andy Biersack (vocals); Jinxx (guitar, strings); John Webster (keyboards); Christian Coma (drums); David Steele, Nikki Grier, Tiffany Loren, Marc Lefrance, Angie Fisher (background vocals). Audio Mixer: Bob Rock. Recording information: Paradise Studios, Hollywood, CA; Steakhouse Studios, North Hollywood, CA; The Warehouse, Vancouver. Illustrator: Richard Villa. Photographer: Jonathan Weiner. Arriving just one year after the band's ambitious 2013 concept album Wretched and Divine: The Story of the Wild Ones, Black Veil Brides' eponymous fourth long-player continues the Tinseltown rockers' evolution from faceless metalcore noisemakers to Sunset Strip-burning glam metal revivalists with a fetish for grandiose, turn of the century emo. Kicking off with the one-two-punch of "Heart of Fire" and "Faithless," both of which make a solid bid for modern rock radio/WWE montage domination, the 11-track set follows no story line, opting instead for coverage of traditional hard rock tropes like unspecified suffering and fighting the man, peppered with numerous references to fire, blood, death, and the breaking of chains. Musically, BVB offers up a torrent of furious riffing, monster pick-slides, and meaty percussion that falls somewhere in between "Kickstart My Heart," Godsmack, and Ride the Lightning-era Metallica, with highlights arriving via the jaunty (rhythmically) death vocal-led "Stolen Omen," the anthemic, Iron Maiden-twin, lead-driven closer "Crown of Thorns," the propulsive, pseudo- industrial highway jam "Devil in the Mirror," and the aforementioned first single "Faithless." ~ James Christopher Monger

  • Step-daughter Would Recommend This
Me, I am not a fan of this group. I bought the CD for a family member as a gift. She is a big fan of the Black Veil Brides and I believe with her receiving this album she has all their recordings to date. Based on what she told me she loves this recording and rates it among her favorite album's. The five stars then I am giving this album is based on her thoughts and feelings on it. I don't know. Maybe it is a generational thing. I like hard rock as much as the next person but Black Veil Brides version is a little too much for my taste. For the step-daughter however she loved it and I would say she would recommend this album to anyone a fan of BVB. ... show more

  • best cd ever made
This is by far the best cd I own. Do yourself a favor and give it a chance, you'll be hooked. the opener Heart of fire. these guys are also the best live. They have the best and most dynamic vocalist in rock, their bass player is incredibly talented and the drumming is the best I have heard since Neil Peart . The guitar tandem is the best. the lead guitar player Jake Pitts is simply the best I have ever heard, he is already a legend. there is not a bad song on this cd. goodbye agony and walk away are incredible ballads. I predict these guys will be the next kiss as far as popularity cause they have what it takes. In every aspect they are also better than kiss. Once you buy this, you'll have all 4 in short order. ... show more

  • From an old school Rock and Roller fan, this is the new band to watch!
Wow, love this CD! Took my son to see them at the Observatory in Santa Ana. What a great show. I truly believe that this band will become the next great rock band. As the old guard Rock 'n Rollers from my day start to retire from the tour circuit, I'm hoping that Black Veil Brides gets the chance to fill those vacancies. Love the first two songs "Heart of Fire" and "Faithless". It's got the sound, melody and lyrics,...I'm a believer. Great job guys! If you're a fan of old school rock with a slice of the new stuff, this is the band. ... show more

  • vinyl review
The album is beautifully crafted, my favorite songs would be faithless, devil in the mirror And last rites. The entire album is very very well put together the album art may kinda put you off for a minute thinking that it's like a metal-core album or something but it's actually rock with one metal-core song "stolen omen" there is a very good ballad on this album called walk away which shows off Jake Pitts guitar skills where it doesn't have the wretched and divine feel or the violen and piano and makes up for it with rock 'n roll riffs and heavy guitar solos. ... show more

  • Love this album!!!
This album is AWESOME!!! I honestly love this album. It's amazing hoe far black veil brides has come. Simply put, you'll either love them or hate them. This album is a rock (seems harder than their others in my opinion) and I am OBSESSED with it. My father doesn't really like this album. Mainly because he's more into the slasher and other bands with hardcore "screaming guitar". So it really depends on what kind of rock you're into, but if you love "harder" rock please check this album because it is one of their harder ones. ... show more
