Description

You will receive a box containing 5 pounds of bismuth chunks. It will arrive in multiple pieces. Bismuth metal is great for element collectors, crystal makers or any one who has a use for a low melting temperature metal. It is a non toxic metal with symbol Bi and atomic number 83 Element 83 has quite the repertoire of unique features: Low melting temperature making it perfect for DIY casting projects and alloying. With some practice, you can make beautiful hopper crystals. The most diamagnetic element (repels magnetic fields). Has one of the lowest thermal conductivity values among metals. Expands upon solidification like ice from water, and can be used to make a tight-fiting casting such as typesetting. Makes an excellent lead substitute due to being non toxic, although you should still wear protection when handling it. In earth's crust, it is twice as rare as palladium and only twice as abundant as platinum and gold. Increased phase-out of lead in manufacturing means demand for Bismuth (and its price) will skyrocket - it's only a matter of time. Bi is very brittle so expect some crumbling during shipping. We always strive to provide the biggest chunks possible.

  • Quick delivery and properly weighed.
I'm beginning to work with metals and bought from here as a first time purchaser. I'm happy with the speed and amount for the price. The bizmuth appears to be high quality and was weighed accurately after I checked at delivery. The packaging was a little underwhelming, a few bits were tucked into box corners and I had to break the box down to get every piece, but that was a small issue that didn't affect much for me. Overall happy and will probably make further purchases for more bizmuth. ... show more

  • Used for making bismuth crystals
Had to figure out a good process but the material is very good for melting to make bismuth crystals.

  • Fun science project
My son and i had a blast heating the bismuth and making crystals for his science project. We used our stovetop but you could use a portable burner as well. I wouldn’t recommend using your good cookware. We used a stainless camping cup cause once you melt bismuth in it, it is pretty much ruined for any other use. ... show more

  • Fun to teach your kids about casting
All it takes to melt is a cast iron pot and a propane stove. With some casting sand a little imagination you can cast just about anything. It's not a strong metal but it is fun to learn.

  • Makes Beautiful Crystals
Product is exactly as advertised. We melted over and over again to make crystals. Were able to produce at least 10 well defined and beautifully colored crystal clusters of ~1X1", and 1X2" in dimension before the metal in our pan was too shallow.

  • Pebbles
It was 5lbs. Seems very pure, they just seem to have used little gravel/pebble sized bits to get just over and I've got to wonder if the manhour of such precision is worth the margins saved over some more standardized process but please don't get me wrong I'm not complaining at all, it's a perfect order. I just found it a bit cute. ... show more
