I have been buying this product for over 5 years. I could not say better thing! I hunted for years for a natural product that would lower the amount of chemicals going into my body. I tried many, and I have stuck with this one for quite some time. It leaves your clothes feeling clean and fresh and the fragrance is natural and not overwhelming. Scent: Cold Water Citrus Size: 64 Fl Oz (Pack of 1)
I started washing the bulk of my clothing in cold water because I believe in being a good steward of our resources. Tide Coldwater is the gold standard of cold water washing, but it's expensive (20-25 cents a load), made by a large mega corporation, and "meh" in terms of environmental friendliness. Biokleen is economical (11-15 cents a load), made by small company, and environmentally friendly. (Biokleen is my 2nd foray into environmentally friendly laundry detergent; my first was ECOS, which I cannot recommend.) Biokleen is fine for treating average levels of dirt and is also gentle enough for your silk, wool, and delicate garments. Ground in dirt and greasy stains will need pre-treating, (Biokleen makes an *excellent* odor and stain remover called Bac-Out), and you will want to add some baking soda or washing soda if you have hard water. (These treatments are still cheaper per load than Tide.) THIS DETERGENT HAS NO ADDED PERFUMES -- the citrus aroma is inherent to the orange and grapefruit extracts used as cleaning agents. (Citrus extracts are degreasers.) Damp out of the washer (I use vinegar water with a splash of bluing as my fabric softener) clothes have a very lite citrus scent which vanishes by the time they are dried. (This detergent would probably do better against grease/oil if it had more orange extract, but that might leave a lingering aroma.) Pro Tip: because this detergent contains no optical brighteners, if you are using a homemade fabric softener, add a little bluing (a safe all natural product that's been used for centuries) to it to brighten your clothes without fading colors the way that oxy products do. ... show more

This is just a powerful detergent … I’ve even used it in my upholstery cleaner. Love that it only takes a small cap and environmentally friendly. I work outside, hit the gym regularly, have pets and can get messy when I eat. It seems to tame it all!

    • The best natural, non-toxic laudry liquid I have tried yet.

Main reason for getting this, is that I get migraines from the artificial scents used in name brand normal liquids. It's gross. Of all the non-toxic and unscented liquids I have tried, this one cleans the best and is a great value due to the high concentration. I do landscaping and yard maintenance. The only workers with clothes dirtier than mine at the end of a day are guys in diesel repair shops. This laundry liquid cleans incredibly well in a HE machine, even on clothes caked in dry mud and plant stains. If you live with people who waste huge amounts of laundry liquid by overdoing it on each load, you can buy one of these bottles of concentrate and another, larger bottle of other non-toxic stuff. Once that runs out, dilute this concentrate into the other bottle and hide the concentrate bottle and never tell anyone. I can refill 3 larger bottle of liquid by diluting in water from just one bottle of this concentrate. I no longer have to get angry about others in the house wasting money. Sometimes I would look at the bottle after someone did one load and it would be 1/5th of the way gone down in one washing. That's like 20 loads worth in one shot. While this laundry liquid does not have much of a smell, it does have a slight citrus scent that goes away after the washing and drying process. ... show more

Scent: Cold Water Citrus Size: 64 Fl Oz (Pack of 1)
The advances in synthetic fabric technology has not kept pace with detergents, which are still mostly formulated for natural fibers. Cotton for example is easy to wash since it is hydrophilic (soaks up water) and thus repels hydrophobic (oily) stains and odors, can be washed in hot water and bleached all of which kill odor forming bacteria. Odors cling to hydrophobic synthetic fabrics and are difficult to wash since synthetics do not tolerate high heat, softerners, or brighteners. I have tried the powdered synthetic cleaners that rely on high pH and enzymes to breakdown the oily, clinging odors to mixed results, often requiring lengthy pre-soaks. Biokleen contains lemon oil which is mostly limonene, a powerful organic solvent that can even dissolve paraffin wax. Without brighteners, softeners or other additives, and being highly concentrated (do not overuse in your HE washer) Biokleen is the best detergent for synthetic fabrics including automotive microfiber cleaning cloths. Very inexpensive considering the number of washes in each bottle. Gets out those clinging odors other detergents can''t. The limonene content adds its characteristic orange peel scent.
