  • Fantastic microcentrifuge tube racks, bad listing
I am a university student and have used these microcentrifuge tube racks before. That is precisely the reason I searched to find these exact ones. They are good weight and very sturdy. It would take some effort to break one of them and it would likely have to be on purpose. The description says it accommodates various sizes of tubes, which it can if you want it to. However it seems to be made for the comfortable use of 1.5mL tubes. Anything bigger likely won't fit in the wells and anything smaller will be quite loose. When the 1.5mL microcentrifuge tubes are in the rack there is a small amount of wiggle. But it's similar to how a test tube wiggles in a test tube rack, it's not going to fall out and is quite secure. The reasoning for the 4 star rating is for this listing specifically. As another reviewer mentioned, there are no covers, which I was really hoping for. In the description it says the covers are sold separately, which is contradictory to the listing title. I contacted customer service before ordering to see which it was and was told it had covers (according to their computers). It did not. To compensate for this amazon offered to let me return the racks or take a partial refund and keep the racks. I kept the racks because they serve their purpose fantastically. Another issue with the listing is it says that if you flip the rack over the other side serves smaller tubes. This is also incorrect, the other side is a completely flat surface. There is only the one side for tubes to be put in. I highly recommend these racks, just know you're not getting covers with them. ... show more

  • they're still easy to remove when the time comes
You will not regret purchasing these for your lab. After we bought these, I later convinced my adviser to buy 3 more packages, because this $20 investment saves hours and hours of labor of organizing minicentrifuge tubes. I use these with 2.0 mL minicentrifuge tubes with screw-caps, and they fit perfectly next to each other with the edges of the caps touching. There is no wiggling with this size of tube. I also use tubes with flat bottoms, so they feel very solidly placed in the rack. However, they're still easy to remove when the time comes. These racks are fine in the freezer and when I pour boiling water over them! Actually, I think they might be my favorite piece of lab equipment... ... show more

  • Good sturdy racks, no covers, no holes for 0.5 ml tubes
I bought these racks from Amazon because they were cheaper than what I could get for my lab from lab supplies vendors. The racks are sturdy, fit 1.5 ml and 2 ml microcentrifuge tubes. Tubes fit in with some wiggle room, which is the way I like. If you are looking for a tight fit, this rack won't do. Nalgene's 1 ml cryovial won't fit in completely, but the base of it fits well. So you can use this rack for holding cryovials as well, although the vials will be sticking out. As other reviewers have pointed out, there was no option for fitting 0.5 ml tubes (usually these are on the other side of the rack). I was aware of this when I bought these racks. Value for money. I have not tried autoclaving these. ... show more

  • just like a tube rack should be
pretty self explanatory. these are the classic plastic block tube racks, and they function pretty much like any i've ever used before. they hold the screwcap microcentrifuge tubes perfectly. once you get into the flip cap ones, they get a little too crowded to use every hole, but that's always the case for this style of tube rack. fun colors is an added bonus! ... show more

  • Tubes wobble a bit and "covers" are NOT included despite what the description says
There is no "cover", I'm not sure what that part of the description is referring to but "covers" are not included in this purchase. I got five sturdy plastic racks and that is all. The quality is good and they are really solid and heavy so they aren't easily tipped. A 1.5mL tube fits 2/3 of the way in the rack and the inside of the holes is flat so the 1.5mL tubes wobble around a little. They would be a LOT better if there were a smaller hole in the bottom of each tube hole to hold the tapered tube ends steady. I wouldn't use anything smaller than a 1.5mL tube though as there will be too much slop for the tubes to lean and wobble. ... show more

  • Good for most perfume samples
Storing perfume samples is a bit of a problem. They come in small glass or plastic spray bottles. The glass ones usually fit well in these microcentrifuge racks (I sued to use this in lab, as do all life sciences scientists do). Some of the plastic perfume sample tubes will not fit these. I keep the rack with the samples in my drawer (away from light). Works well for this purpose. For the larger sample spray bottles, try a foam tube holder (those you can just force the tiny tubes in even if they are bit larger). ... show more

  • Looks like any other 80-place tube holder
Looks like any other 80-place tube holder. Do note that this is not a flip holder. It only has 80 place for 1.7 to 2ml tubes on 1 side. Only critique is that the corners are a little sharp, and for some reason it has a slippery bottom. But the pricing is really good compared to external vendors. Good buy. ... show more

  • if you have ever fiddled with those stupid tabs on micro tubes
I never realized how indispensable these are in the lab until I didn't have any. These are solid and hold microcentrifuge tubes well. (There's even enough room to load them without skipping holes if you're careful; if you have ever fiddled with those stupid tabs on micro tubes, you understand this is priceless.) ... show more
