This is an excellent training guide to improving pocket billiards skill. I have been playing regularly for about 65 years and found very helpful tips to improve my play. Try the "ghost ball" idea to help with difficult ultra cut shots! You will love it.

I recently acquired a pool table for my rec-room. My friends wanted to play games on it that I was not familiar with. This kinda evened the score and reigned in the made-up rules they espoused.

Nice book. Bought 2 of them. Item description does say 2005 version. Which they are. Wish I’d realized that before. Oh well. Not sure what has changed since then. Still plenty of useful info, just be aware it may not be current. You might want to look for the 2021/2022 version.

I was surprised to learn how different the official rules are compared those I learned while growing up. Great to have the official rules. The book is quite elaborate with rules of many games and also techniques for play. Highly recommended.

Every bar, tavern, club and hall with a pool table (in the US) should have a copy of this on-hand. The horrendous inconsistence and outright ridiculousness of most local and house "rules", not to mention individual "rules", has made a sorry mess of recreational American pocket billiards. I can only hope that the REAL games of 8-ball, 9-ball, etc., become better known to amateur players over time, and that the bogus, corrupt, yokel variants of these games finally die off some day. Don't confuse this complete book, with rules for many games, with the BCA Pool League rule booklet, which only covers the league team versions of eight-ball and nine-ball. [UPDATE: This edition is now obsolete. As of Nov. 2013, the most current is the 2011 edition, but it does not seem to be available on Amazon. ] ... show more
