The plastic axle is solid, and the molded rubber sheath and nubs have just the right shape and flexibility to give the foot a good workout and massage without hurting. It can be used under foot while sitting or standing, depending how much pressure is desired. I don't suffer with plantar fascitis but my feet can become tired, stiff and achy by the end of the day. This roller can provide a quick fix without too much effort. Note that the rubber is a little sticky to the touch, which is desirable to prevent slipping on the floor, but this can also pick up lint and dirt.
