    • Works with the Harbor Freight woodworkers bench
Update - moved from 4 to 5 stars after a few months of use. Other than the small modifications noted in the original review it has needed nothing further. Shopping for some soft jaws for it now. I have been looking for a vise with a long clamping arm to use for small projects. I needed a vise that would allow me to clear the front of a Harbor Freight woodworkers bench at the end opposite of the built in woodworking vise - this is the vise that finally fits my needs. I made a small modification to the foot of the clamp to ensure a better fit (literally took longer to get the Dremel out that it took to do it). Eleven years ago we downsized to a townhouse in town from acreage with a large barn and two shops - in doing so, I gave up my bench vise in addition to a lot of other tools. I kept the tools that I use the most and when I needed a bench that was functional for me and aesthetic enough to pass muster with my wife I went with the very affordable woodworkers bench from Harbor Freight (its seen 10+ years of use and is in great shape). Given my limited workspace a small vise was a challenge. I could certainly bolt one on but I wanted the flexibility of being able to easily move it if needed. This vise fit the bill. I will leave it at four stars until I use it some more - but I do think this will see an upgrade to five stars. The only down side is that top of the jaw faces was left pretty rough - that's easy to fix but something that I shouldn't have to fix. ... show more

I really like this little vice. I’m a jeweler and have a few very expensive work holding systems for different processes, but I wanted a small traditional bench vice for all “other stuff” vices could be handy for. The size of this one is perfect for me. It’s small enough to conserve bench space and for detailed hobby work, but not so small it can’t handle typical bench vice tasks. It seems very solid, rotates and locks easily and it has a cool quick release button. If I remove a large item from the vice and then want to put a small item in, I just press the button and it allows me to slide the he jaws together instead of having to spun the handle endlessly. I have found that to be a great time saver! In case you are wondering from my picture; It does come with a decent clamp for mounting but I ended up mounting mine directly to the bench which gives me better access to the drawers below. ... show more

    • Good vise for a jewelry bench.
There are several things that I especially like about this bench vise. First the size and weight is appropriate for my jewelry bench. It is attached to the end of my bench and the footprint is only a few inches. Second, the attachment clamp opens to accommodate my three inch thick bench. I chose the not permanently attach the vise in case it would be necessary to relocate it later. The only thing I could criticize would be the roughness of the jaw plates. I dressed them a bit by filing the edges smooth as well as the plate surfaces and so far they have not scratched silver surfaces. The soft plastic plate covers that were included, are better used with wood projects. I would recommend this vise based on my evaluation. ... show more

    • A little vice will never hurt anyone.
This vise is perfect for the homeowner\hobbyist. The quick adjust jaws are great and the mount was great for the 2x4 outside edge of my workbench. I wanted a vise that can be removed from the table, but strong enough to hold something when I have it clamped to the bench. The multi direction of the vise will be useful at times as well. The only negative was I had to go to the hardware store to get the correct bolts to mount the mount to the vise. They also have to be short to work on the vise.     • Rotation lock doesn't lock
A few things wrong with this. One, the rotation lock doesn't. I mounted the vice, locked in my stuck tub spout and pipe, went to try and break it, and the entire vice turned. No matter how much I turned the locking lever, the vice still turned. Two, the screws connecting the table clap to the vice didn't. No matter how tight the screws, the clamp wiggled. Three, the plastic guards for the vice didn't fit. ... show more

I didn't expect something this well built. Lots of ways to clamp vice or bolt down and it swewills and locks. Very good buy!
