In addition to being a grandson of Marjorie Merriweather Post, Stanley Rumbough is obviously a capable photographer. Time-worn interiors are captured in beguiling natural light. But the lovely photos tend to run together. I got lost in the book, not knowing which house I was looking at; Mr. Rumbough deserves a book with a better editor and designer. Fans of Little Edie Beale and "Grey Gardens" may be disappointed to find that celebrated East Hampton house missing from this book; but they'll surely be pleased to find it splendidly portrayed in another of this summer's beautiful beachy books, Rizzoli's "Summer Houses by the Sea". ... show more

    • Truly something special!
It's fascinating to see the classic homes of the Hamptons. While they might not be the flashy new homes people expect, there's a beauty that can only come from so much history. Thank goodness someone is capturing these photos before they are lost!
