  • Bought on a whim for my DND game
I bought this on a whim so I could control the music transitions in my dungeons and dragons games with physical knobs instead of digital knobs from the software, and so I could rebind the buttons to perform various functions such as controlling lighting. It does a fantastic job of this- especially with midi to keyboard shortcut programs. What I didn't expect was the ability to customize the input of each button and knob, and for there to be 3 pages of inputs you can toggle through! This probably works great for it's intended usage, but there's so much value from a technical standpoint if you know how to use external software. I currently use it with my art tablet too, as I've bound a lot of keyboard shortcuts to it. I've gotten insane value out of it, and it's fairly small for convivence too! I am unsure if you can do more with the lights. I'm sure it's possible given the right modifications or software, but my only complaint is I haven't found a built in function to swap between lights dynamically. I was hoping for more cool lighting effects. ... show more

  • Don't buy this product. You've been warned.
Don't expect it to work out of the box. User manual written by a software engineer for software engineers. User manual's font is a 2. Mind numbing. All cables needed are not included. Truly truly garbage. Amazon should do better.

  • This MIDI device looks great.....
I got this MIDI pad as a way to provide touch presets for one of my lighting controllers. I am still learning how to interconnect this with my other hardware, so I am not able to rate how well this device works. I was able to successfully connect this pad to a PC running Win 7. The device was recognized and the buttons light up. The buttons responded quickly to my touches. The input and output ports are clearly marked. A USB A to C cable, standard MIDI adapter, soft carry case, and User's Manual are included in the box. The pad is lightweight and seems well built. I don't have enough experience with this device to have an opinion on the value vs cost. When I have finally figured out how to make this work with my other equipment, I will update my review. ... show more

  • So far so good.
The media could not be loaded. (updated to reflect more experience with the product) Four knobs, 16 pads, 3 banks for each plus tempo, record, and loop buttons. Using a combination of buttons, you can set note repeats and swing %. The pads light up depending on mode, and the driver software works surprisingly well. The pads have 4 different sensitivity modes. Apparently, I hit too hard to use soft, but I had difficulty registering hits in normal or soft, so it was either Full (127) or Hard, where the threshold for velocity is higher. I've seen reports of folks having problems with cheaper pads; I haven't had enough time to find out if I'll need to mod my pads, but they're working fine as of September '23. I use Ableton, and it was unfortunately no dice on an automatic set up. I picked an Akai surface profile, and mapped my input into it, and that got me up in a jiffy. The controller won't work until you download the software linked in the manual, but the manual puts an "s" at the end of download on the link but there is no "s", so keep that in mind if you can't find the drivers. If you've never mapped a midi controller before, I'd recommend watching a video or two. It's complicated, and you won't really know what your final setup will be until you experiment. There are web tools out there to help you create your own custom script for this controller; I recommend using one, it's much easier than manually mapping all the inputs. Take special care to make sure all your buttons aren't being received as momentary or latch commands: this will make it impossible to map certain features of your DAW, because it isn't toggling those buttons. I have no real confidence this could survive multiple drops, but it comes with a soft bag case, and it works, so there's that. I've had a chance to mess around with it, and honestly it's surprisingly responsive. It doesn't really read 32nd note input as well, but I was able to keep a beat going with no prior experience with pads. If you're a professional, you might want something nicer, but honestly it does anything I could want it to already, and if it breaks you're not out hundreds of dollars. Pretty good deal, if you ask me. Final verdict: I didn't feel like buying an expensive controller. This will do just fine. It doesn't feel incredibly cheap, it works, and I didn't have to pay top price for the brand name. (and the manual has proper English!) ... show more

  • Not just surprised, but really impressed!
Unfortunately, the product description used the term "controller" loosely, because this not a MIDI controller or synthesizer, but a MIDI instrument! That aside, this gear has a lot going for it. Here's the breakdown: Pros: - The unit construction is top-notch. Some other MIDI equipment that cost way more feels flimsy in comparison. - The unit was recognized immediately by FLStudio, and I was knocking out beats within minutes. - The manual is well written and available in English and Simplified Chinese. - The package includes a well-constructed orange-colored USB-C cable. - The package includes a nice carrying case. Cons: - The driver download page reflects the wrong size (see pictures). The website claims 9.86MB, whereas the download package is in fact 27.4MB. Seems odd. - The transport control section of the TempoPAD is not supported out of the box by FLStudio. It sees MIDI commands, but it doesn't have the correct script to support the actions. These are convenience buttons and do not really impede the ability to use the unit. Other thoughts: - The "DC - 5V" USB-C port is to be used to power the TempoPAD P16 when the unit is connected to a smartphone (and using the USB-C port labelled "USB - C"). - Pad 14 does not light up when the MODE is set to Keyboard (MODE is lit red) because it doesn't have any action associated with it. That's not a defect, and is documented in the manual. I hope this review helps you make an informed product decision. ... show more
