I've used just about every brand of pellets available, and quite honestly, there generally isn't a whole lot that separates them from one another except for price point and "hardiness" in how well they hold up. Bear mountain is a fantastic, economical brand in my opinion - they provide a great deal of flavor and smoke when used in my RecTec and really, at a fraction of the cost of some other brands. I have been playing the electric smoker game for several years now ( I also have an off-set wood burning smoker that I have made some modifications to) The electric smoker was supposed to be--Turn it on ad meat forget until done. Nothing I used or however I tried different little modifications would produce a nice little CONSISTANT smoke throughout the cooking cycle until I tried the Bear Mountain Pellets last week. They produce a nice soft and steady smoke. My first bag is pecan. I have burned many a chord of pecan wood over the years and the Bear Mtn. is, smeels as Pecan smeels. This product works so well that I am turning my smoker on every afternoon for a couple of hours to make sure I,m not imagining how good this stuff is. If all you want is a little trickle (hint of smoke) use the other stuff but if smoking is what you are really up to Use BEAR MTN. ... show more

This blend of pellets burn very hot and super fast. My most recent long cook burned almost a full 20# during the 9 hours, other pellets such as knotty wood burn about 10#. The ash from them is reasonable and the smoke is strong, but lacks a deep flavor. I'm testing another bag from this manufacturer and will review that. So far, it's not poor like some others...but definitely not the best either. ... show more
