  • Great replacement for plastic and vinyl liners, but it does require extra care!
I waited on the review because I was a little worried about using a hemp shower curtain. It's wonderful. No more plastic and stinky vinyl! Here is the thing about hemp shower curtains, you *have* to wash them! They must be washed every 2 - 3 weeks or at the first sign of mildew. Then, you hang the curtain back up to dry out or hang it outside. Once it's dry, you can use it again and again in the shower. Having a resuable spray bottle with 1 part vinegar to 2 parts water does help keep mildew down. You can spray it on the curtain after each use. It does take some extra care, but it will last you a long time if you just remember to close the curtains after each use and wash it! ... show more

  • shrinks each time is washed
Color: Cotton Natural Size: 70" Standard Shower
This shrinks terribly! I had read the reviews that said that it would shrink, so I knew a bit of what I was getting into. Before using it, I washed it in warm water a couple of times, thinking that I would get the shrinking done with. I had hung it in my shower before just to see how long it was. It was 5 inches too long... so if it shrinks a bit, it will still be long enough. Right? nope. It was several inches too short after the washing! I decided to add fabric to the length, so cut 10 inches below the hook holes, added 5 inches of pretty print canvas and it was the right length once again. An easy fix if one can sew. Recently, I did a wash again... it had a bit of mildew on it, so it took a couple of washes, but the stains and smell did come out... But, when I hung it in the shower to dry - it was 5 inches shorter than the last time! I could arguably add yet another row of fabric below the last row and make it work yet again. And I might. BUT - I shouldn't have to! This doesn't shrink horizontally, just vertically. I sew a lot, I use canvas a lot to make bags... I've never had fabric shrink this much. As much as I wanted to love this and as much as I love supporting American products that are natural, I can not support this product. It is not enough to have the credentials if the product doesn't do what it needs to do. This much shrinking after so long and so many hot showers is a sign of a defective product. I cannot recommend this product nor will I buy another. ... show more

  • Best Use For Hemp Is To Smoke It
I wanted to like the curtain. It is attractive, the color subtle and the material interesting. I was not concerned about mildew as I planed to use it for my patio doors. It was a perfect length and width and generous when I held it up. It actually touched the floor and crumpled by over an inch. It was a little wrinkled so I followed the directions that came with it. I washed it in cold water and used the delicate cycle for good measure. When I took it out of the washer it was far more wrinkled than when it went in. I decided to leave it that way and call it the rumpled look. When I ever hung it I was stunned. It had shrunk like mad. It was now inches above the floor and no longer covered the width which it had done generously before it was washed in cold water. Don’t even think about washing it in warm water! I will lower the rod to solve the length issue but there’s nothing I can do about the width. I could not recommend the curtain. My conclusion is the best use for hemp is to smoke it. ... show more

  • Quality
First I want to say is I don’t give 5 stars unless it exceeds my expectations. I have had the curtain since Jan. 2019 and have been pleased with its quality construction. After all the warnings in the bad reviews I was very careful. I washed it weekly in cold water, dried on low heat and watched for mildew. After a few weeks I noticed the curtain was a little long and laying a bit in the bottom of the tub. Long story short, I can’t get the darn thing to shrink. I wash on hot and dry on high. It shrinks maybe 3 inches but as soon as its wet its back down. The bottom hem that lays in the tub does seem a little dark like it might be getting mildew or it may just be the folds in the hem when they are damp and they are the last to dry. We shower at night. In the morning I lift it out of the tub and let it hang outside the tub to dry more effectively. I’m happy, just saying. ... show more

  • Make sure you have some flexibility for how high your shower curtain rod is hung.
It takes a lot of research, and often, a lot of money, to find and buy Made in USA products on Amazon. So when you finally find something that looks like it will work, you jump on it. And confirmation bias kicks in while reading reviews, so you cling to the good ones and excuse the bad ones. Don't do that here. In a nut shell, you have no idea how long or short this thing is going to end up. Or how long it will last. Or if you have time and willingness to do the maintenance that is not required on any other shower curtain I've ever had. In the section about shrinking it says to wash and hang dry. Or to shrink it by drying it in the dryer, while checking to see how much it shrunk. There are two reviews here that mention it shrunk twice, and from the vagueness of the instructions, I'm inclined to believe those reviews. My shower curtain rod is bolted into the studs, so I'm not going to remove, patch and reinstall every two weeks when I launder my shower curtain. If yours is a tension rod I guess it's a lot easier to lower. At least until you're stepping over it to get in to the shower. How long will it last? Is it going in a guest bath that is used a couple times a year? Or in a shared bath with several showers a day? Apparently you need wash and hang dry this thing. If you are already doing that with your laundry, please skip this paragraph. If you aren't, why not? Because it's a pain and you don't want your laundry running your schedule. Or you live in a condo or apartment, or your HOA doesn't allow it. This super feel good shower curtain isn't for you. For $20 or $30 I'd take a chance. But at 100 clams they're taking advantage of my love for the planet. ... show more
