Description

Flip Your Script! You’ve been promoted to leadership—congratulations! But it’s nothing like your old job, is it? William Gentry says it’s time to flip your script. We all have mental scripts that tell us how the world works. Your old script was all about “me”: standing out as an individual. But as a new leader, you need to flip your script from “me” to “we” and help the group you lead succeed. In this book, Gentry supports and coaches you to flip your script in six key areas. He offers actionable, practical, evidence-based advice and examples drawn from his research, his work with leaders, and his own failures and triumphs of becoming a new leader. Get started flipping your script and become the kind of boss everyone wants to work for. Read more

  • Stepping up
This is a great book for anyone, if you are thinking about moving up in a company there is great information, if you are in management and thinking about promoting someone there is great information as well. It definitely creates thought.

  • Must read for new supervisors!
I breezed through this book and found value in every chapter. It is an excellent resource for first-time managers and anyone who wants to up their game as a manager. The author has distilled his message so that it is clear, concise, and actionable. Although based on sound research (both from leaders in the field and original research conducted by the author), the author's message comes across as a conversation from a caring and thoughtful person who wants you to do your very best as a boss. Dr. Gentry not only backs up his recommendations with research, he also brings them to life with examples from his own recent experience as an individual contributor who was promoted into a director position. His conversational style combined with the solid and practical content makes for a standout resource for new managers. I highly recommend it for people who are even thinking about becoming a supervisor or who want to become more of a leader in their work. It should be required reading for new supervisors. ... show more

  • Awesome book, a tad redundant.
The advice and guidelines in this book are amazing. It has truly helped me and gave me a new look on managing. Although, the author is very repetitive with a few phrases it’s still a great read!

  • Great resource for new and evolving managers
Full disclosure: I am a big fan of the work of Bill Gentry and wrote an endorsement for the book. With a trifecta of research conducted at the world-famous Center for Creative Leadership, personal stories from people at various points on the leadership journey, and a wonderfully entertaining writing style, this book has something for leaders at every level. Bill’s leadership roadmap will help you become the boss that everyone wants to work for. I’ve highly recommended this book to all of our clients and to my newsletter readers. ... show more

  • Flip the...
Honestly, I couldn't bring myself to finish it. Perhaps because I already share many of the view points mentioned, but I couldn't take one more flip the script. May have good thoughts later in the book that I didn't make it to, but what I did work through could be great points for people to realize. I have spent too much time researching new leadership skills to find much for myself. ... show more

  • easy to digest and totally on point
I came to know Bill Gentry through his exceptional work with the Center for Creative Leadership. Most leaders don't get formal leadership training until 42 or later if ever -- so leadership learning is survival of the fittest. Bill's passion for helping new leaders be successful from the get go boosts leader confidence and reduces the chaos for seasoned leaders with full plates. This books is well-researched, easy to digest and totally on point. It's a must read guide for first time leaders and a nice refresher for emerging leaders with some spots to polish. It's my go to reading for new leaders. ... show more

  • A Great Book for an Emerging Leader
This book was easy to read, easy to follow, but full of highlights. As an MBA student there was a lot to take in and I'm glad I was able to do so.

  • Great Read - Bill Gentry has great experience and knowledge
I thought that this book was very good. Love the perspective of how new leaders do not get the training that they deserve and that nothing automatically changes the day you are promoted. Only reason I rated at four starts was the entire theme felt a little too repetitive to drive home the flip your script point. Overall - great and easy read and would recommend to any firs time leader. ... show more
