OK, so this is a lightweight bat with a plastic cap. If you're buying for self defense just go in knowing that this isn't going to end an attack by a determined individual or more than one person. It will hurt them pretty good on the first swing IF you land the blow perfectly, but if I had to guess, it would collapse after that. I wouldn't hit a baseball with this thing, that's for sure. The baseball would win. So no, it's not "thickened" and you're probably better off getting a little league baseball or softball bat that can actually stand up to repeatedly hitting a hard object (including skulls). This thing looks the part, but it's too light weight to end most fights with any person/people who would bother to attack someone they saw was already holding a bat. ... show more
