  • Happy, with one exception
As mentioned in another review the Adapters for Ductless Split System have a pretty significant short coming. The thread that attaches to the mini split port is about 1/4" longer than a typical adapter. The result is that it takes a whole lot more turns to remove the adapter, and the result is a lot of gas being dumped from the system. Not good. After experiencing this I purchased a new adapter from Pioneer and thur the two that came with the kit in the trash. Otherwise, I am happy with the purchase. ... show more

  • For the homeowner AC guy perfect. For contractor not the best
So in honest fairness I bought this set and Yellow Jacket. For all the same in Yellow Jacket equipment I paid almost triple. Now since we are adding AC services to our electrical contracting company I will be using this as a contractor in the field. It is for that reason that I am sending it back to keep the better quality, but way more expensive equipment. The gauges here work but the number for the temperatures of each refrigerant are too hard to see. On the one I tried it was about 5lbs off. I know there is an adjustment screw but it wouldn't hold zero. I cross checked it with three friends gauges. Now again for a homeowner that shouldn't be a problem. But trying to figure out true super heat and sub cooling is a liability if the gauges are consistanly that far off. If we slug someones compressor with too much refrigerant we have to replace it. I also think for lower pressures of 134A and or r22 this thing would be great but hard to see. Best thing to do is check temperature pressure card to correct refrigerant and use gauges PSI readings, as those can be seen well. As for vacuum pump and bag, well once I tried the gauges I had decided to return it. So never opened either. My friend who does just appliances and Vehicle refrigerants loves this kit tho. He has had that pump in the field for over a year with no issues. The adapters for mini splits are junk. They take too long to close seal before refrigerant is spraying everywhere. The sight Glass in manifold is useful too and isn't present on the more expensive manifold I settled on. Actually not on any or name brand stuff in this price range. So good bang for your buck there. A homeowner DYI guys would want this feature so he or she can see the refrigerant movement and know what is going on. ... show more

  • Flawless
Easy for anyone to use saved a fortune vacuuming my own A/C system. saved hundreds of dollars by purchasing a non DIY split air system or my garage.

  • Much cheaper than a professional service call!
This one package contained nearly everything I needed to install a mini-split (still needed a micron vacuum gauge, nitrogen bottle & regulator to really do the job properly), and I can use it and all the other tools for the next time too. It has a basic 3-hose manifold, and I'd prefer a separate hose for vacuum port and supply, but for the price, it did the job and was hard to beat. In a perfect setup, the nitrogen bottle & the vacuum pump would each have their own hoses with shut-off valves... (I did bother to go take & pass the EPA 609 Universal test after getting this, just because, well, I could, and it also was pretty cheap too - I recommend anyone who's having to mess with this stuff do that) ... show more

  • So far so good.
I'm giving it 5 stars because I ran it for hours and it worked for my mini-split. Not sure how it compares to other pumps. With standard vacuum gauge tubing with 1/4" connections and connecting a micron meter to the pump, I was able to pull down to 130 microns. Not sure if I had had vacuum rated thicker tube it would have gotten lower. But it did the trick. Also the carrying case that comes with it is roomy, looks nice and great to have as a portable mini-split work bag. Enough room and intentional space to hold other tools and parts, like vacuum gauge set and hoses, valve stem removal tubes, adapters and odds and ends. I definitely needed to change the oil frequently to get a strong vacuum. Not the fault of the pump, like they all will, pull in air and nitrogren and moisture or whatever from the line set during evacuation, which in my case showed up as super tiny bubbles (1/64" dia or smaller?) at the top of the oil in the oil level window after awhile. And at that point the vacuum is weaker. Not even that many bubbles, but if you see them it's a warning that some gas dissolved or mixed in with the oil, which reduces the pump's efficiency. Changing the oil creates an immediate improvement. That is just a known in the business. The pump definitely gets warm (but not hot) after long use. but doesn't seem to hurt it. ... show more

  • Worked great for installing my new mini split ac unit.
In the past I've used an installer for my new ac systems, but this time I broke down and bought this set since I have three units to install in the near future and hey, it's not rocket science. There are a ton of great videos online showing how to install a new mini split system. Just the first installation saved me $200 to $300 in installation charges after the cost of this pump and gauge set, so it's already paid for itself and saved me money even if it dies tomorrow. In the future I'll pick up a set of adaptors so I can use it on my cars as well. The pump pulled a vacuum quickly and did not get hot even though I ran it for another half hour to give any moisture enough time to be removed. The gauges are easy to set up and use, and seal very well. I left them connected to the ac system overnight to make sure there were no leaks. Neither the ac nor the gauge set leaked any vacuum. The carry bag is very nice and I was really surprised by the thickness of the fabric and quality. The nylon fabric has a rubber/plastic coating on the inside. This will come in handy if the pump ever leaks a little oil (as they all tend to do). Are there better units out there? Definitely, but they'll cost you three to four times (or more) as much as this one. It's perfect for the DIYer. ... show more
