Very good for back support. It is light weight and I can see the difference in my waist. Lost couple of inches since I started using it. The straps are adjustable. Since I am not too long, I feel the belt is wide. But it helps to cover my hip area though. Good to wear for longer times. Wearing it while doing house chores and exercises would help to reducing weight and couple of inches. ... show more

    • Easily adjustable and stiff, but not totally rigid

The brace uses hook-and-loop ("velcro") to secure itself to you. There is a main strap to attach to your torso, and two straps for further adjustment, similar to other devices. The brace is simple enough for one person with average flexibility to put on, as the adjustment straps should be unfastened and will be hanging loose (depending on your torso circumference it may be slightly behind you). I got the medium size, and I'm a bit smaller than its low range, so the straps hung in front and overlapped when secured but it fit well. It's the right size vertically for someone of average height. The hook-and-loop placement and area sizes are very good for a secure fit that will not release on its own. Since the adjustable straps may overlap, there is hook-and-loop surface on both target sides. It's just easy to remove. It came in a zip bag and box which is a good way to store it. It has a noticeable manufactured smell that isn't revolting but isn't pleasant either. You can't smell it from a distance or while wearing and it goes away if you air it out. There are four vertical stays, 2 on each side starting from 3 cm away from center (which has springs), and the next 6 cm away from the first. This provides reasonably good stiffness but is not 100% rigid. You can still bend your back somewhat. However, there is resistance and that can be a reminder to maintain posture. There is even pressure across your back due to the adjustable straps' x-configuration. It feels good to wear, similar to sitting back into an ergonomic chair with lumbar support. But you can wear it while mobile. It is breathable and comfortable. You're supposed to wear it over some sort of clothing. It does not restrict upper body movement. So it can be used for its stated purpose of relief without getting in the way of most routine activity. ... show more

I've tried many back braces and they are all similar, with minor differences in design. All have helped with my lower back pain. Surprisingly (since I went into this with a "they're all the same" attitude), this one is now my favorite. On first glance it seemed much larger than the others I've worn and it is a bit taller and perhaps a little bulkier. FYI, my waist size is at the lower end of the medium size and this brace fit me snugly so if you are at the top range of medium you may want to go up to a large. But for me it fit snugly with just the main velcro closure and then very snugly with the adjustable velcro strap on each side. The big difference, though, vs. all other braces I've tried are the four vertical steel supports on the back. They provide additional rigidity to the brace but they don't really affect mobility or range of motion. So I feel that much more supported in my back and it reminds me to maintain a better posture. The manufacturer recommends wearing this over a shirt (or undershirt) and because of the additional supports I'd agree. Again, it's a bit taller and heavier than some other braces but the added support is well worth that trade-off. The price is comparable to all other braces I've tried so for the money this one is the way to go. ... show more
