  • Too tan to give a damn
Style: too tan to give a damn
I have fair skin, this gets me dark. I do two to three coats. I’ll probably buy the darkest color when I reorder as I have the second to darkest. I leave it on all day. Then wash it off the next morning. By the time I shower any color that comes off is very minimal- just the color guide which is a slightly gray tint. I end up coming out of the shower as dark as I was going into the shower, just with a beautiful brown color minus the slight gray hue. I, like many here, have used almost every self tanner on the market. This stuff is cheap and gives you a deep, dark tan, what more could you ask for? The color doesn’t settle right away so you can check it out once done in one area and you have time to even it out if you need to. I never have streaks or am blotchy. Just be sure to properly prep your skin, this is the key to an even, beautiful tan. If you’re a beginner do your research, or read the pro tips below. I wish someone had given me these tips before I first started on my self-tanning journey. Here is how I prep and how I keep my tan lasting as long as possible. - Start exfoliating two to three days prior to tanning. (Here’s why this first step is MOST important: If you just exfoliate once, you’re going to get a bunch of dead skin cells off, but you’re not going to get everything off. When you tan dead skin cells, those dead skin cells are going to eventually shed themselves not at the same time as the other skin cells, and so you’ll left looking patchy or spotty. I use Indie Lee’s ‘Coconut Citrus Body Scrub,’ but any salt or sugar scrub you like will do. If you have dry skin, use a moisturizing body scrub as exfoliating can be abrasive and remove moisture. - Remove hair the day before with an epilator or by waxing, something long term so you don’t have to shave your color off. If you must shave, shave the day of tanning when you shower, not the day before. - Shower the day of tanning- but WAIT to tan. You want your skin to be clean when you apply your self-tanner, but you should wait a little bit post-shower to slather on tanner. When you get out of the shower, your skin is more absorptive and the self-tanner or the bronzer [can] seep into your pores, which can leave you with a speckled appearance, almost looks like blackheads or freckles. **If you're in a hurry to apply, you can run ice cold water over skin for 15 seconds to prevent seepage, but your skin should be completely dry before applying tanner to prevent uneven application. - Protect your hands and feet, apply a fragrance free moisturizer because if you don’t they will be orange. Go for a non-oily moisturizer that absorbs quickly. Make sure whatever you use even if it’s something you have to use in a bind, that it COMPLETELY absorbs into skin first. For dry skin do two coats. I VERY lightly apply moisturizer to knees and elbows and lightly apply tanner on these areas as well. - Use a tanning mitt, for small areas like feet you can use a make up brush, it works just as well as a tanning brush- trust me I’ve used both. Doing this ensures a subtle tan in those areas also. I use one for my face also, and blend it into my hairline in circular motions. - Work from the feet up. Your body creases and so will your tanner if you don’t. - If you forget to pick up a sling tanner for your back, use a spatula and put it in your mitt. (Don’t judge 😂) - WASH HANDA IMMEDIATELY AFTER. Use a makeup brush to blend the areas around your hands and wrists so that you don't finish with a line. - To preserve your self-tan for as long as possible, take lukewarm showers. Once you get out of the shower, be sure to pat yourself dry instead of rubbing and always moisturize. If you need to wear something tight like a sports bra, apply talc-free baby powder onto your skin before you wear it to make sure your tan stays glowing. To keep up with your tan for as long as possible be sure to use these showering tips towards the bottom. When you remove hair try a cream hair remover, avoid shaving if you’re gonna keep up the tan. Reapply as needed, every few days should do the trick. ... show more

  • If you use this product properly results are magic
Style: love at first tan
I've been using this product for about 2 years now year-round. I'm Italian and tan very very quickly in the summer. This leaves my tan lines white as a plucked chicken. I started using this product to cover my white butt and boobs. Now I use it year round to keep from looking pastey in the winter. When I first used this product I did not have a application mitt. The results would come out splotchy and because I would leave it on a lot longer than the 4-Hour maximum it would rub off on my clothes and bed sheets and look uneven. I never rinsed it off and it makes a difference. I finally put my glasses on and read the directions correctly. I started using the application mitt to put it on and after many many months decided that too much product was being soaked into the mitt and my results just weren't very dark and my mitt had to be washed out every handful of times it was used. Way too much product was coming off of the mitt and going down the sink. Finally I have figured out the perfect plan. I put on plastic gloves and apply the product methodically to my whole body. In between fingers and toes on the sides of hands and feet and when I'm all done I use the mitt to brush whatever is on the mitt lightly over my face and ears. I use the mitt to smooth out the unevenness and erase any seams I can see. *This product takes a while to dry till it's not tacky and you can get dressed. It's the only thing about it that is bothersome. A minimum of 30 to 40 minutes. I'm not going to stand around with my arms and legs spread out for 30 minutes so when I sit I'd be very careful about the folds of my skin touching other folds of skin messing up the consistency of the amount of product on certain areas. I found that the skin under my boobs would make it rub off as well as the inside of my thighs, the backs of my hands, wherever on my butt I sat down and the creases any and everywhere. I put on a very light summary dress that hardly touches my skin and that is a dark color and I just try not to sit down for long until I can touch it without it feeling tacky on my skin. At that point I can get dressed or get in the shower. I leave it on for 4 hours or more and, before I would get dressed for real, I jump in the shower and rinse it off. For the first year I didn't rinse it off and that was a mistake. I wasn't quite sure what "take a shower" meant to btan. Does that mean with soap? Does that mean with a scrubber? I finally decided to just rinse. Now my skin looks totally naturally brown. If I keep up and do it once a week there's no fading. However if I do let It fade it's subtle enough that when I redo it it doesn't look like I just stepped out of a tanning booth. I find that there are specific spots like the under part of my forearms and biceps, just under my boobs, the top of my butt and my hands and feet that are worth paying a little extra attention to. When I first tried this product 2 years ago my boyfriend would tease me calling me a canned yam tan. 😡 He hasn't said a thing in over a year and I don't think that he has any idea that I even do it still. Summer's coming and I have found that even if I have the btan put on recently I can be in the Sun and still get a natural tan even though the product is there. Praise god! Now I just got to lose 20 lb and I'll look amazing in my bathing suit for the first summer in a long long time. *This particular product with the purple tone added really makes a difference. It absolutely does look more realistic and not brassy or orange at all. ... show more

  • Nice for beginners
Style: fall in love at first tan bundle
I got the 2* color since I’m pale, very new to tanning, and didn’t want a super dark tan. Initially I got this to do face contour. I blended it well using a makeup brush and sponge, but didn't find it to really work despite leaving the tanner on all day. I tried next day and didn’t blend it as much/left it darker on my face. Again it didn’t really work. Not sure why. Decided to use on my legs to add a bit of glow. I exfoliated and moisturized my knee area before application and rinsed it after 2 hours. One light coat left a nice glow but it was really subtle. Did a second coat a few days later and am pretty happy with it. It’s not obviously a faux tan but gives my legs a bit of color. I recommend following the instructions and really exfoliating first, and working it in with the mitt. It dried within 30min-hr while I did my makeup. The second time I decided to leave it on longer, and applied in morning and didn’t shower/rinse for 48hr (don’t judge). I found that worked best for me and I liked using the lighter shade to build up instead of go too dark at once. TLDR: not good for contour but nice for body. Start light and build up. ... show more
