  • One less worry.
This coop door is great but the video made installation look simple and fast. The weird cuts you have to make are difficult. The jigsaw was only a little helpful. I did most of the cuts with a skill saw. The result was not the prettiest, but the door works. Setting the time to open and close is kind of confusing but, after two days of watching it like a hawk (which is why I got this door in the first place), I felt comfortable enough to not run to the coop twenty times a day. The chicks accepted the new door quickly and only one chick got left out the first night but only for about 10 minutes, since I came out shortly afterward. They all know to get in ahead of 9pm now. I like that you can set the time of day, or sunrise/sunset, or manually with the remote or back of the solar panel. Or a mix of any of those! The remote doesn't have much range. I'd buy again. 5 week update: for some reason, the door is not opening/closing automatically. I can still hit the button on the solar panel or on the remote to open and close. But it is not opening at sunrise and closing at 9pm now. Maybe it got reset "somehow." I do have grandchildren, so.... that being said, it's a good idea to check on it twice a day at least. But I still really like it and it's made life easier. I added a picture showing how I used a scrap of wood to install the door into the coop. Not pretty, but it works. ... show more

  • Works as advertised
I purchased this coop door last month. The hardest part of installation was cutting the hole for it to fit just right. I cut the hole too big by just a fraction but the door still fit. I've only got the top two screws in holding it and it still works well. The only thing I found that I didn't like, and why I gave 4 stars, is that I wanted it set for sunrise and sunset. It worked well the first few weeks then all of a sudden it stopped opening at sunrise. Resetting it proved somewhat frustrating but after a few days i think it's finally working as it should again. It will open and close best manually. The best part about it is the anti pinch mode. It senses the chickens and I've never had an issue with one getting hurt. The door is the perfect size for them to come out one at a time. All in all good product just wish it worked consistently on opening and closing since we got it so we could be out of town overnight. Once we get a new door cut to perfect size that may help. ... show more

  • My chickens love this door!
THIS IS A LONG REVIEW! I have read many mixed reviews about this door. I will tell you that my chickens and I are glad I made the purchase. It so far has performed as advertised for me. I like the auto open close setting since I am not up as early as my chickens! Some people think chickens are not very smart but they actually are intelligent. They know the door will close at dark and they are in the coop before the door closes. So far no chickens have been locked out of the coop! I do like the no pinch feature of this door. So if by chance one of the chickens is in the door way when the door is closing it will stop then open and stay open long enough before closing again. I have tested this by using the included remote and my hand. The door stops as soon as if feels resistance and opens and stays open I would say at the very least 15 seconds. Mounting the door is something anyone can do. Hold the door where you want it and trace the opening then cut the opening and mount with the screws. In the instructions it does give clear instructions on the different settings like setting to open and close at a specific time every day or automatic at dusk and dawn or you can open/close it by pushing the button on the unit itself. There is also a remote that you can use as well. I leave mine set on automatic so my chickens can utilize all the daylight hours for good egg production! If you made it this far in my review I hope I was able to give you the feedback to better help you pick out your own chicken door. I highly recommend this specific door. I live in North East Iowa so it has been rained on, hail and wind, direct sun you name it and this door is still working perfectly. ... show more

  • Game changer
Until I got this door, I had to go out every morning and night to open and close the coop. Now I dont have to rush and go out becuase the door opens and closes by itself. The only reason for the 4 stars is becuase out of 3 months having the door, 2 times it did not open with the sun. Vey happy and would recomend to all chicken owners. ... show more

  • Super convenient item
We bought this chicken door to replace a different chicken door that has stopped working after 1 year. We like this door because it works on solar power so we don’t have run an extension cord out to the coop. It was a little tricky to program, but for the last few weeks, the door is opening up at sunrise and shutting at sunset. I do appreciate the remote if we wanted to manually open and close it. ... show more

  • Don't have to open or close the chicken coop no more!
Since we didn't have a chicken coop door that matched the existing size, we had to frame a new doorway. Afterward, we installed an automatic chicken coop door. Once the door was mounted, we proceeded to set up its mode. For the opening, we opted for the daylight setting. As for the closing, we chose the timer setting. Initially, we had set it to daylight mode as well, but our chickens weren't going inside the coop early enough, and the door ended up locking them out. To rectify this, we adjusted the door to close 15 minutes after dark, and now all our chickens manage to make it inside the coop. We're thrilled that this task is now automated, making things much more convenient. ... show more

  • Great product!
I got this door so I didn’t need to be home to lock up my chickens every night before dark. We have lots of predators that come out as soon as it’s dark and this auto door gives me piece of mind that the chickens are safe even when I’m not there to lock them up. Also it’s nice that it opens at first light and the chickens are a lot happier to get those extra hours before I can get to letting them out in the morning. The door was super easy to set up and installation only took a few minutes. I’m definitely pleased with how it is working so far :) ... show more

  • Chickens are happy
So far so good! This is going to be a huge help in the long run! Our chickens will be happy for those slower mornings when we would be a few minutes late letting them out, that they are now covered.
