    • Makes sowing a breeze
As a farmer, there are a BUNCH of holes I need to dig for sowing during the spring. Usually, I’d dig them by hand, but I saw these and wanted to give it a chance and I’m glad I did. These are actually great auger drill bits! I tried one before with bad results. It was too short and the digging function was more difficult to do with a drill than with a shovel. This one is very different. The auger part has a nice design that allows the dirt to quickly travel up and out, while still penetrating the soil. With the extension rod, I can comfortable dig a bunch of holes. I did a few hundred holes a few weeks ago about it worked flawlessly for all of them. I was pleasantly surprised! All the parts of the auger seem to be made of high quality metal that is light enough to be comfortable to use but heavy duty enough to eat through the soil and sod. Natural canvas bag sits well with the garden supplies. The extension rod is stout enough for use in some construction as well. It's even marked as an 8mm socket. The auger itself is a 1/3 double blade with welded on chisel tips with enough meat to be maintained for a long time. That the blades are shaft welded at the bottom and top help with a bit of spring and resistance to jamming on rocks, Thus saving the drill as well as the auger itself from permanent damage. Confirmed this myself as I grow more rocks than even grass in my yard. So about the rating. I've broken 7 bolts. I haven't found an option that can handle the torque when I hit a rock. The 2 that came with the auger broke the fastest, leading to a touch of frustration. The holes are a too small for D-clips and the grade 8 options get expensive quickly. As a generic garden tool, sure. but now your limitations and don't use this in a rocky or root bound area without a spare connector. In general, I had more luck without using the extension in my case, but it is difficult to give credit as a kit when half the kit is not functional as intended. ... show more

I have a larger auger/hole digger for larger plants but always used a trowel for small plants and seedlings. This auger makes life so much easier. Consistent round holes to drop in the seedlings made in seconds with one hand operation. I have not used the extension yet but did test fit it and it goes together fine. I'm planning on sinking some smaller fence posts soon so it will get a proper test run but it certainly seems like it will do the job adequately. ... show more

I tested this auger in a couple of different soils. It worked great in sandy soil. It was OK in soil with a few small rocks. It started to have trouble when I got to a soil layer that had a lot of gravel. It would power through small roots. Larger roots might take some time to power through. Overall, I really liked this auger bit and will use it for garden tasks and starting post holes. When using it hold the drill firmly to avoid a kickback if you hit rocks or thick roots. ... show more

What a help this little gadget has become. My soil isn't super hard but I do have roots in spots and also iron ore rocks. Often I will use post hole diggers to help plant but thats alot of work and if I hit a rock or big root its a pain to dislodge either. This bit is so helpful. It will cut through most smaller roots and can do larger ones if you work at it. With rocks I can wiggle the bit around the rock and loosen the soil to get it loose. Right now I'm putting some posts into my garden for shade cloths. This is saving my back so much by loosening the soil deep enough that it makes the job with the diggers so much easier. I was a little concerned with the connection in the middle. Not sure how much torque it will hold up to so I don't push it too much. I'd rather be careful and keep that extra depth I get.     • A necessity in Texas!
Gardening/landscaping in Texas has been a chore. The soil is extremely rocky or clay and is hard to manage. This auger has made digging post holes so much easier! I've used this to loosen up rocks and pull them out of the hole. Clay is much more annoying to deal with, but it still works.
