  • Mostly potato, but otherwise fine.
Style: Stew Blend
These are great for adding to soup or quick meals like ramen. My only gripe is that it seems to be primarily potato pieces. When I grab a handful or two there is visually, I would estimate around 75% potato, then celery, then everything else. Carrots seem to be rare in this, as I'll often grab a handful or two and only get 1 to 3 tiny pieces of carrot. I know they sell carrot by itself, but it's so expensive, so I opted for this one which had some other veggies I like too, but didn't expect the ratios to be so off balance. Overall though, it's fine like flavor-wise. Just that the potato tends to stay unpleasantly stiff (I'd say comparable to baked potato skin, in toughness) even after being boiled and microwaved with ramen, which might be why it stands out so much in anything I use it in. Maybe it just needs to be soaked in water for a long time, but I bought these because I wanted something quick and assumed it'd just be like the veggies that are in instant noodles, which other than the inclusion of excess potato, it really would be perfect for since everything else in it does fine with just adding boiling water or microwaving with water/soup, except the potato. ... show more

  • Surprisingly good
Style: Stew Blend
The surprise was that, during cooking in a lentil soup, the onion smell was so strong my son asked why I was cooking onions in the middle of the day. But the taste wasn't overpowering at all. Sadly, my husband is allergic to bell peppers, so I can't use this for family meals, but my son and I also eat ramen so I'm going to recommend he use them in his. I always like to put veggies in my starch dishes, so this will help with that when I don't have time to cut cabbage or shred carrots. The flavor is good even days later, at least in the lentil soup. I'm waiting to see how it stands up to freezing and thawing, since I did make the soup for meal prep. And I'm glad I bought here on Amazon, because the price was something like double on the company's website. I will definitely try more of their products though. ... show more

  • Get your veggies! good assortment of ingredients, decent amount of calories for sale price,
Style: Stew Blend
Weight is as expected. You do know that they use #10 cans as so most emergency suppliers. That means, NUMBER ten, not ten pound. The size is because it allows for continuity in storage, and allows for various volume amounts that also satisfy the weighted amounts (products are sold based on WEIGHT not volume, which means you can have a canister that appears half full, but it has the weight that is being sold). The #10 canisters are also reusable for other needs, and when still fully sealed will float and will take a lot of abuse all while maintaining integrity of the contents. I have not experienced these situations, but that is the idea across all emergency food. Next size up tends to be pails, then buckets, then simply multiples. Be smart. I buy "emergency food" when it is on sale. That's it. The whole point of prepping is to accumulate well before it is needed. I buy regular food and store it well, and only then do I add in "emergency" food. It is great that it is available, but it is fantastically expensive. Even if you dont do any real food preserving, so long as it is away from light and rats, it all will be fine for a long long time. But added assurance is with emergency branded food, and it takes the knowledge and work out of it. But even then, pay attention to prices and buy when the prices dip low. You can amass more food for your buck that way. If and only if you are in a bind (you were late to the prepping game), then yes by all means get what you can. This vegetable stew is not something I plan to open any time soon (I dont think). I buy similar dried vegetable assortments and soup blends for a fraction of a price, and just double bag it before I toss it in a dark cupboard, or with more motivation/ambition I could repackage in mylar or an air tight container. They are all the same, more or less. Difference is with the types of vegetables. I like having different brands for this reason. I use it for quick soups (just need enough hot water to rehydrate), for crock pot meals for simply adding vegetables anytime to anything whether I have fresh on hand or not. Since I was able to get this on sale at nearly same price as my non-emergency veg soup/stew products, I decided to pick up a couple of canisters to tuck away. I took a look at the ingredients and liked the assortment of vegetables (inc potato). The calories being purchased looked good too. My canisters look good, no dents. I would not have been too concerned with mild dents anyway. ... show more

  • Faster than expected & undamaged
Style: Stew Blend
I haven't opened the can but I'm considering it because of the many verified good & bad reviews. I bought this to add to other meals I have & will purchase in the future. I am glad to see many good reviews as well as bad & all in-between. As with all food there's going to be the picky people who need every aspect of their experiences to be perfect down to the presentation & then there are those who are more interested in content & that it can be consumed in some creative way at the very least. This is a #10 can of dehydrated vegetables, not freeze dried, there is a difference. So expect it! If I don't like it in one form I will change it to a healthier seasoning on savory meals. Believe me, if it comes down to having to use this in an emergency situation you will consume it & you will be happy to have something when others haven't thought ahead. If everything works out for my family, we won't ever have to use emergency food rations like this, but it's there if we need it. I think of it as another form of necessary insurance. ... show more
