  • Comes ready for air assist!
Color: 5w-long Focus
If you've spent more than 5 minutes with laser engraving machines, you've no doubt heard of the benefits of "air assist". "Air assist" blows air down through the laser nozzle while you're using your laser engraver. It does this to "blow away" the smoke caused by the laser engraving / cutting process, which means there is less interference for the laser to operate correctly (smoke partially blocks the beam and makes the machine less efficient). It also helps cool the laser optics, which can increase accuracy. A laser engraver with air assist will work faster and cut more cleanly than one without. Most of the time, if you want to add "air assist", you have to go seeking lots of parts, starting with a special nozzle for your laser, if it will accept one at all. Often, the upgrade path to "air assist" requires you to buy a whole new laser head. But not here. It's mentioned nowhere in the description (Aufero should put this in there), but the Aufero 2 long focus machine comes WITH an air-assist nozzle ready to install on the laser. I wasn't aware of this when I ordered it, and had reached out to Aufero to inquire about adding an air-assist nozzle. They promptly responded to me in less than 12 hours to inform me that it's already in there, all I need to do is install it. Fantastic! Not only is the machine ready to be upgraded without any difficulty at all, but Aufero actually responds to questions quickly and politely. So not only does the machine get top marks for its great build quality and the fact it comes ready to upgrade to air-assist if you want to go that route, but Aufero gets top marks for their prompt response and attention to customer service. There are a lot of laser engravers on the market to choose from and it can be hard to wade through the mire. This one seems so far to be a great machine (I've only just begun to use it), and the company seems like one you can do business with and not regret it. 5 stars. ... show more

  • Powerful— but demanding. And big.
Color: 5w-long Focus
The media could not be loaded. First off, I’m so grateful there was a video online on how to assemble this. It comes in lots of parts and pieces and you have to screw them all together and connect lots of wires, and loosen screws to put the grounds under them in several places. There is a 0% chance I could have done this successfully without the step by step video. I paused the video at every step and often rewatched a section before I did it on my own. It’s definitely not for the faint of heart or for those who are uncomfortable taking computers apart. I’ve been taking computers apart for a lot of years and I still found it intimidating. So then, hours later, I think I’ve got it happily put together, but then I need to connect it to a computer to test it out. The instructions in the users manual included were clear on how to install the driver, though I thought it was weird I *had* to install a driver on my win11 computer when the machine connects simply through the usb port. But I did it anyway, because I’ve never used one of these before and I try to know when I don’t know what I’m doing (and follow instructions.) So I did that and it seemed happy, so on to the next step, the software. I had two choices on software, either LaserGRBL (which looks a lot like garble to me, which wasn’t inspiring), or Lightburn, which reminded me of lightscribe, which I could manage back in those days, so I went with Lightburn. I went and found that and downloaded and installed it. I’m in a thirty day free trial period, but it looks as full featured and complicated as a full Photoshop, so I’m a bit worried what a full subscription is going to cost when my trial is up. I got that installed and starting goofing around with it. I opened up a random picture on my computer and set it up to fit within the constraints of my sample board, followed the instructions on the various settings in the instruction manual once again, and kept getting an error message when I tried to actually “print”. So I went online again, and there is a help section, thankfully. So then I did a firmware upgrade (more complicated and weird than it sounds), and then had to force reset the thing through the “console” portion of the Lightburn program— and now I’m finally burning! I’m not sure how successful this initial try is going to be, and I’ve got a lot to learn, but I do feel like this is a powerful at home machine. What it won’t be good for is non-geeks, like cricut users. I can ultimately make most things work, mostly through perseverance and web searches these days vs any kind of actual brilliance, but this one had me challenged at times. Just the software program is going to have a learning curve for me, and I was experienced in both photoshop and quarkexpress at one time. Now that I know it works, I’m going to really enjoy exploring its capabilities. Take advantage of the online help and videos from the manufacturer if you get it— you’ll need them! And that info is quite good and comprehensive as far as I’ve found so far. For the G-code locked out error 9 code, if it’s not just me (see pic): the codes to enter in the console are $x (this unlocks it again after you’ve had an error and it gets stuck), and $64=0 Mine was happy after this and the firmware update. I did the firmware update first. Minus one star for the difficulty. Most people I know would have given up in frustration and called me to make it work. ... show more
