  • This WILL work on Xbox Series X with a wired controller.... (updated) 2 busted headsets - FINAL
This review is focused on people who are on the fence and not sold on the versatility and performance of the Mobius on PC and Xbox. Although I post several negatives, this is my attempt at clarifying what others have said. I wanted to get my initial thoughts down for those like me who've wanted a pair of Mobius over the Penrose X. USB audio is not supported on Xbox series x so you must use the 3.5mm aux adapter. The issue is there isn't enough power in the Xbox wireless controller to run the Mobius so the sound will be tinny, crackly and VERY quiet. There isn't a remedy for this using a wireless controller. Depending on your setup, I've been running the PowerA Fusion wired controller for well over a year and this is your only solution if you want to use the Mobius on the Xbox s/x. I ran several tests to ensure that the sound quality I was receiving on the Xbox compared to the PC with a USB a/c connection and I can confirm it is identical. The only downside being is that it is straight stereo and not hi-res or surround 7.1. I haven't compared it enough to vouch for the pc 7.1 vs xbox stereo as far as competitive gaming goes, but the stereo sound is incredible, the best you'll find on the consoles. Using the app, I found the flat setting to be most enjoyable but for FPS the ballistics setting was preferred because the bass response was just too muted on flat relative to the games own mixing. Ultimately, when comparing this to the Penrose X, the Mobius has some high quality features that Penrose x just can't match. Namely - 3d audio - Still tinkering with this one, I'm not as put off by it as other reviewers so I think there is a niche for it's application, I just haven't found it yet. I will say the effect is more subtle than I was expecting, which is a good thing. The word gimmick has been used to describe it and I think that does too far. It's legit tech, that is well implemented. - Hi-res audio (pc) - FLAC files, Tidal Masters, noticeably fantastic - Surround 7.1 (pc) - Haven't tested conclusively but certainly a wider soundstage - Mic - Penrose x mic is hands down a deal breaker for me. Watch some youtube comparisons, it's literally night and day winner for Mobius. Mobius has the absolute best mic in gaming. Negatives - - Volume dials??? - Many people have complained about it's placement, and being an infinity wheel, but in the little time I've used them, the placement is fine (albeit on the left), and infinity wheel works just fine. For every click of a rotation, volume is augmented 8%. Not an issue for me. - Noise canceling is passive and is above average but active noise canceling would be more ideal. - Call Volume on BT is not very loud. If you are planning on having a do it all hands free device, Mobius lacks in this department. - Cost is premium - Comfort is lacking out of the box. Ear cuffs fit a little tighter than other sets. I ordered a set of wickedcushions ear pads to see how that feels. It isn't terrible, but they are toasty and you'll feel the heat after 30 mins and I am getting a slight headache breaking these in. Not a deal breaker for me, it's been noted and well documented. Not uncomfortable, but could use some cozying up for sure. People might complain on the wired connection but if you want premium sound, you can't run bluetooth. Wired is the only way to go, and if you're using a wired controller, the provide 3.5mm aux cable isn't very long and easily manageable. - NO custom EQ settings - this bugs me. You can custom EQ with the Penrose but not Mobius??? There are about 7 different EQ presets so you're basically covered but I would like to mess with my own preset. For me I tried the astro A50s out and was underwhelmed with the sound. I personally just game with some modded Bose QC15 headphones with a mic and splitter but the cables are wearing on me but the sound and comfort is still very good. So far, I'm pleased with this purchase. It's a premium price for sure but this kind of sound isn't found on any other console headset. Just know that you can run these on an XBOX series x if you're like me and not willing to sacrifice for the Penrose x. Update - after a few days of use, they just bricked. I couldn't power cycle, used several different charging ports/devices. Plugged into the pc, the audeze hq app couldn't even address the problem. I've submitted for a replacement and will update my review once testing the new set. For a premium price, this is unacceptable. Updated again - 1st headset just bricked itself and now this second one just has terrible feedback with the mic. First headset did not have this issue. I tried with my ps5 and xbx s/x, aux and USB with no success. I even tried a different 3.5mm mic and had the same issue so I'm assuming it's headset related. Very disappointing. Final Update - I ended up getting the Penrose X on sale and it's been truly fantastic. The only thing i miss is the HiFi mode, but the sound quality is still superb and I haven't had a single issue using it with my Series X, or my PC. The mic has been wonderful, no feedback, no issues. I was never satisfied with my mobius purchases, but I'm 100% satisfied with the Penrose X. ... show more

  • 1 Year and 4 months later, full breaking of swivel/driver area.
TLDR: Great Sound, Questionable Use of Vocal Announcer for Modes, Bad Materials/Design Choices lead to being cheap construction and Breakdown in months to year and half later. Full review below. Sound quality is almost top notch, the 3-d Head tracking and such are great for gaming, but I had issues with it: sometimes when plugging in to my PC, would cause Windows 10 to BSOD due to some USB violation---which could be due to Motherboard/drivers, but some other reviews say same thing, so not sure to counting this against it. The "voice" of the announcer for actions of POWER ON, POWER OFF, USB, Bluetooth, switch of modes is annoying as heck, and would have preferred tones/lights. Also, the Ear Pads are smaller than I wanted, and bugs me they did not include a larger diameter, or one sold on their site, and even possibly a "deeper" cushion on them. They also after daily use had to be replaced because they broke down fast due to absorbing face/ear/hair oils/sweat to easy, with-in 9 months of purchase this happened to me, in part due to the airtight seal they produce. It's inexcusable that they used materials and design of the swivel above the drivers which all over the internet has reports of people reporting that they broke in same general place (varying from few months to year and half later). This apparently extended into the Hyper-X brand's version as well, meaning I won't buy that one either and neither should anyone else. I would have thought Audeze would have changed materials since 2018 (I bought mine 01/2021). This proved to be false as of 05/2022 the swivel area has cracked and about to snap on both, due to stupid design/material choices. I'm not going for a replacement, it's not worth it for their design and material choices and lets be clear, the Penrose models were in running for chance of buying one and settled on Mobius because PC usage and Console on my end. AND THEY have the same flaws due to being same molds/materials, so even if I went to them, same issue would have happened. Audeze makes high end headphones, for them to skimp on a lower end and not add a few dollars on material and not fix the flaw even with an increase in price years ago makes me doubt I will buy anything from them again. ... show more

  • I’d recommend! Love the positional audio
You push a button on these, and it ‘centers’ the sound stage.. when you move your head, it sounds like the speakers did not move. It’s like VR head tracking for audio only. Bluetooth, or USB.. It’s fantastic. You can cock your head to get a clear idea of where sounds are coming from in games.. That feature also provides a lot more enjoyment than expected out of movies. I use this via Bluetooth with my home theater after hours…. “Prey” sounded amazing.. the sound staging also gave me a better ‘home theater feel’ Now, I’m not saying this is audiophile quality…. But I thought the audio quality was very good. It has noise cancelling which wasn’t quite as good as my BOSE aviation headset, but it would be hard to tell the difference. My only issue was that from time to time the re-centering button has to be pushed and refreshed from time to time. In games it was starting to compress some audio and voices in discord started changing pitch, as well as my own voice over the mic was doing the same…. I sounded like a chipmunk. So, pushing the recentering button fixed it every time.. I also never experienced the problem again after switching to a separate usb microphone. Can’t say I’ve tested this enough to know the problem, but it suffices to say that it’s not a deal killer. These are my general use headphones now.. I travel with them and game with em. ... show more
