Description

Ultra-light backcountry performance. That’s what you demand, and that’s what the Atlas Helium-BC delivers. With the 23” model coming in under 3lbs per pair the Helium-BC is almost as light as the name implies. The composite Helium deck provides the feather-light foundation and features a unique louver design to shed snow more efficiently. The low-profile, tempered steel BC crampon sits lower in the frame to compliment the PackFlat binding and allow for a more natural rotation feel with every step. A backcountry necessity, this binding features urethane Z-straps that hold the foot securely and are field- serviceable with the included BC utility strap. As the name implies, it’s designed to pack down flat when not in use for easy and efficient packing or lashing. Adding to the grip of the BC crampon, anodized aluminum traction rails provide a secure grip when ascending, descending and traversing. When weight and space are limited, but reliability and performance can’t be, you need the Helium-BC.

  • Mostly good, with a few caveats
Size: 26
These are mostly good. I'm using these in high-altitude Utah snowshoeing (8000+ feet). Utah snow is ubiquitous for being powdery and dry and requiring high-float shoes. The things I liked: The crampons on these are good. The teeth bite pretty well, and the way they're angled encourages positive traction. They fit relatively well on my Size 11 boots. I have little fear of them falling apart. The things I didn't like: The keepers that keep the bindings' straps don't keep very well. So you'll end up with binding straps flopping around. The keepers should be better. Things they should do: It'd be magnificent if somebody came up with a better way to attach these to a backpack. ... show more

  • Great traction, straps need work
Size: 23
I used these for the first time on a 4,000 footer in NH. Great float, great traction, lightweight!, better than the other brands my friends had. Heel lifts came in handy often and we’re very easy to use. The only problem I had was the ankle strap kept unhooking. For some reason they still stayed on well but I had to keep re-securing it near my ankle. I bought a few off brand clips I’m hoping will help take care of this problem. Overall would still buy them again for performance reasons alone. Im 5’4”, 120lb and bought the size 23. ... show more
