Astro Tools 1895 Onyx 1/2" "Thor G2 Impact Wrench, Large, Black The Astro Tools 1895 ONYX 1/2" "THOR" Impact Wrench is the 2nd generation THOR designed to be the highest performing 1/2" impact wrench on the market. This impact wrench maintains a short length like the original Astro THOR impact wrench but with several improvements. This tool is rated 1,020 ft-lbs traditional Max Torque (compared to 1650 nut-busting), which is thanks to a larger motor and greatly increased air passageways in the handle and trigger. The new linear trigger included in this design allows for more throttle adjustment and feathering compared to the previous 2-stage trigger. The textured handle in this new design is slightly widened with the top hump flattened for a more comfortable grip, and roll-pin hole removed for less air leak opportunities. In addition, this tool includes a power adjustment wheel and improved FWD/REV rocking lever. This is for use with 3/8" or 1/4" NPT HI-FLO fittings (adapter for 1/4" included), 6.8 CFM continuous use. I discovered one of the wheels on my F-150 had the lug nuts over-torqued, probably from my last state inspection. My electric impact couldn't budge any of them. I broke one of my breaker bars in an attempt to loosen one of them, so I borrowed a friend's pneumatic impact and that failed to loosen anything as well. I've had my eye on this and figured now was a good time to get it. My first attempt failed, only removing one of the lug nuts, but I was using 3/8" hose and 1/4" NPT fittings. I purchased a 1/2" hose and 3/8" high flow NPT fittings and I was able to remove all but one. The last one required heat and a breaker bar with an extension. I think my limiting factor is my 20 gallon compressor. All the controls worked well, as well as the forward/reverse switch, which has received criticism in other reviews. It's heavy, but I'll only use this when I need a brute to loosen hard-to-remove fasteners. I look forward to using this tool in the future! ... show more

I am an auto tech for 15 plus years it is one of the best impacts i have owned. It's a bit stiff when new like the direction button/switch is hard to move over bit after a while it gets better. I started a new job and needed a gun but didn't have snap on money so I found this guy right here and for the price this thing has chucked off every lug I put it on. If it can break the lug then it'll pull the stud and that's just fine with me.

I would give 5 stars but I'm a full-time mechanic my dislikes about the impact is that the trigger is not as smooth as other impacts I've used its either full blast or off. And the forward and reverse switch sticks sometimes and can't switch the directions. Power wise it's too notch

This thing is a beast. Probably overkill for most of what I work with, but wow what a tool. The quality is top notch and the performance is better than anything I have used. On old rusted u-bolt nuts that my other impacts couldn’t even budge, this handily accomplished the task.     • Pathetic Excuse For An Impact Gun!

Needless to say, it didn't perform as expected! My Ryobi cordless impact gun outperform the "Thor" with ease and that's not good especially if you believe Astro Tools torque-rated claim. I had this impact gun connected to a Industrial Air 60gal air compressor with 3/8" hose & high-flow fittings and it still performed like a dog! According to Astro Tools, this tool only needs 6.3cfm which my air compressor can easily deliver. I even had my regulator set to 150psi at one point and it was still hit or miss at removing the lug nuts! My Ryobi zipped the lug nuts out my Ford F250 which were torqued to 165ft-lb. and the "Thor" failed most of the time to do so hence the reason I sent it back for a refund. The only thing I liked about the G2 "Thor" was the trigger. It's much smoother than the G1 version. Other than fixing the trigger issue, I wouldn't give 2 cents for the 1894 "Thor" G2. Now on the other hand, my 1822 "Nano" is a beast and typically works up to about 150ft-lb before failing to remove lug nuts. I still have my "Thor" G1 and I'm currently upgrading to a 1/2" air hose and fittings so will see if the performance increases or it remains the same so keep an eye on this review for future updates. ... show more

Love the small form factor and balance of the tool. Easy to use and hold for long periods of time. Superb power for a great price. Have been using it about a week now at the shop. Controls are super easy to use. My only complaint is in the picture, the front aluminum plate has a sharp corner and it digs into my middle finger pretty hard and hurts when using the tool.
