Description

The HYDRASYNTH DELUXE is the flagship Hydrasynth, offering a dual sound engine setup and a large ASM PolyTouch polyphonic aftertouch keybed. The user interface is designed with the utmost attention to detail and offers a rapid workflow. Each of the two sound engines features 3 Oscillators, dual Wave Mutators and 2 filters, that can be configured in series or parallel. Both of the sound engines has its own separate balanced analog audio outputs. The tone generating capabilities are simply unmatched. As for the performance capabilities, The HYDRASYNTH DELUXE has a 73-note Polytouch keybed that offers polyphonic aftertouch over each note, giving you the type of expressive control found only in certain vintage synths. Add to this a 4 octave ribbon controller and ergonomically designed pitch and mod wheels and you have expression and control that is not equaled in any other hardware synthesizer on the market. FEATURES Dual Sound Engines The HYDRASYNTH DELUXE offers 16 voices of polyphony in SINGLE mode, that can be split into two completely separate 8 voice sound engines in MULTI mode. The two MULTI modes for separate sound engine operation includes KEYSPLIT which creates classic keyboard splitting between two patches, and DUAL which enables layering of two patches over the whole keyboard. A dedicated balance knob for direct adjustment of the mix between LOWER and UPPER parts of the MULTI patch is available on the panel, as well as separate stereo audio outputs and MIDI channel assignments for true bi-timbral operation. Oscillators The tone generation capability is the heart of any synthesizer. The oscillators allow you to choose from a selection of 219 single cycle waveforms. Wavemorphing is a feature usually found on synths with preset wave tables. Creating user wavetables is arduous or downright impossible. Unlike most wavetable synths, our oscillators 1 2 have our WAVELIST mode. This mode allows you to pick and choose 8 waves,

  • An ALMOST perfect synth!
I bought my Hydrasynth Deluxe with much anticipation. I've been a long time fan of the Yamaha CS-80 and the works of Vangelis using Yamaha's CS-80 polyphonic aftertouch. The Hydrasynth is a perfect update on the Yamaha CS-80 and SO SO SOOOOOOOO much more! It’s been an almost dream come true in that regard. I say almost a dream come true, because I was hoping it could be my everything synth, but I’m struggling with one specific issue. I was hopeful that Hydrasynth, being a digital synthesizer, that I would be able to work on drum synthesis with precision. However, it's the only place I've experienced disappointment in the architecture of the synth engine. For unknown reasons, despite my asking ASM in their official Facebook group and directly through their support channel, there's a strange randomness in the timing of when the envelopes and LFOs engage that make it impossible for me to work on the type of drum sounds I want to make with precision and consistency in the attack transients. Don't get me wrong... it can still make drum sounds, just don't expect any very sharp attack transients that are consistent. It simply can not do it as of firmware version 1.1.0. I did specifically ask if this was intentional in the design architecture OR whether the issue would be addressed in a future firmware update and I've consistently not received a response to either question which leads me to believe it's a limitation of the design architecture that can not be overcome. For extra detail, this is what I have deduced from my experimentation and testing. 1. Hydrasynth does have a Random Phase function which can be turned on and off. With it ON, it's intended to simulate how classic analog synths worked where the OSC cycles would just run in the background and would only produce sound when the AMP ENV was open. This does function exactly as intended and shouldn't be confused with my specific issue. 2. ENV1 is locked to FILTER CUTOFF. ENV2 is locked to AMP ENV. ENVs 1 & 2 engage with different timing than ENVs 3-5. 3. As I experimented to find a way around the attack issue I was having, I tried using ENVs 3-5 as a substitute for ENV2 and found that engages at a very slightly different timing than ENVs 1 & 2. If I’m not mistaken, I believe there’s just a little more latency for when ENVs 3-5 engage than ENVs 1-2. 4. The Random Phase function does create consistency in how a patch will express itself over time when turned ON. However, the ENVs engage with randomly variable latency with respect to Note On and there's no way to sync ENV engagement with OSC phase start to control the initial attack with consistency. Please keep in mind, everything I'm talking about here is when you have an ENV attack value of less than 10ms. The issue is most noticeable at 0ms and pretty much becomes inaudible at about 10ms. There's also a "Snap" function which provides "quicker attack, for sharp initial transients" according to the manual, however in my experience, it seems that the "Snap" function was designed to add the ability to have sharp transients, but it comes with the randomness I've been taking issue with. If you turn it off, it basically hides the issue all together, but you can't get super sharp initial transients for drum programming. From my testing, it seems that the snap function being “OFF” simply adds about 1-2ms to ENV attack. For clarity, this could be an issue for any synth patch where a strong and sharp initial attack is desired. The reason is due to how the Hydrasynth seems to work. With the OSC phase sync option ON (aka Random Phase “OFF”), Hydrasynth seems to start and sync the OSCs first (imagine using a sine wave), then with just enough latency to be noticed and slightly random timing, ENVs 1 & 2 engage, then ENVs 3-5 with a bit more random latency timing. This means that you almost always hear a click because even with ENVs set to 0ms attack, the ENVs don’t open at the 0 degree of the phase cycle. It starts somewhere between 0 & 90 degrees which will produce an audible click. For me, I want the click and would use a different waveform or a variety of methods to get it if the OSC Phase and ENV open were initially synced in any way, but this issue also means that the only way to get rid of it is by attenuating it with a 10ms attack on AMP ENV or FILTER ENV. If anyone wants to reproduce the issue I’m talking about and has any solutions, please find me “Jeremy Gordon” in the official Facebook group. I have a post in there with a video that demonstrates the issue. Please let me know if you find a way to get sharp attacks that are consistent! The simplest way to reproduce/hear the issue I'm having: 1. Initialize a patch 2. Set OSC1 to Sine 3. Set ENV2 Sustain to 0 If you play a note such as C2 repeatedly, you'll hear a variance in the initial transient. I turn LATCH and ARP to the ON position and play a note to make it more obvious and to keep it going to finds ways to get rid of it. “Snap” should be at the default of “ON”. Lastly, I just want to say that almost everyone would love this synth for a million reasons! Despite my issues, It’s one of the best values on the market for any model they offer! I’m a nitpicky technician and like to test the limits of things, so take all of the above with a grain of salt. If you’re inspired by the Hydrasynth and like what you’ve heard, BUY IT!!! You will not be disappointed unless you’re wanted to do the weird crazy things I’m trying to do. I was inspired by what I saw and heard, bought it, and was blown away with what I experienced out-of-the-box. After trying out true polyphonic aftertouch, I can never go back. I’m a bit disappointed with this one issue I’m having, but I just gotta get over it. The rest of the synth is still amazing and such an incredible value! Still crossing fingers ASM finds a way to fix this issue so I can do my drum programming or have more control over the attack portion of any patch! :) ... show more

  • Legendary Digital Synth
Make no mistake, this will be looked back on as a classic in the future. I already had the Desktop version, and I loved it so much that I just couldn't resist getting the Deluxe. The modulation, sequencing, onboard effects etc are all just outstanding, also has one of the most playful varieties of filter types which comes in handy no matter what type of music or sound you like. I would highly recommend this to anyone that is looking for an incredibly versatile and high quality digital synth. ... show more

  • A Beast!
This thing…SMH. It’s like a couple guys, who were fired from their job, bonded at a coffee shop and decided to challenge their old employer. Hydrasynth is AMAZING. Keep this in mind, you have MANY options to manipulate sound. And set your clock, you’ll lose track of time. Easy to follow layout on the keyboard surface guides you to applicable LFOs, Mutants and Envelopes. Knobs give a solid feel. Keys could be a little heavier for my tastes. LOVE the lighting, especially when the unit is in standby. Sounds AMAZING!! “Whoa” has been repeated again and often. ... show more
