  • This drum is MAGICAL
Size: 432Hz Color: BH-STL-10
For what it's worth, I'm seeing a lot of people who ordered the 440 hertz version which is shipped directly from amazon, and then complain it's out of tune - IF YOU'RE BUYING THIS DRUM, BUY THE 432 HERTZ VERSION, BECAUSE IT SHIPS DIRECTLY FROM ASTEMAN'S LOCATION AND NOT FROM AN AMAZON WAREHOUSE!!! Let me explain why. I work at Amazon, and I *know* from experience how people pick up and slam boxes all the time, and that is catastrophic to a handpan!! Handpans are extremely fragile instruments and too much banging around will, I repeat, WILL, make it go out of tune! If you received the 440 hertz version that shipped directly from Amazon and it arrived out of tune, IT'S NOT ASTEMAN'S FAULT! Buy the 432 hertz version, which ships directly from Asteman, who make sure the drum is in tune and plays beautifully, before they ship it out via UPS, who are much more careful with their packages (most of the time). Now, after that rant, let me get onto the product. I bought the Black Hole handpan in 432 hertz. First of all, it's a beautiful handpan. Looks beautiful. It sounds beautiful too, every note is BEAUTIFULLY in tune (I knew it would be, since it came directly from the seller and was shipped with expedited shipping. This handpan came from Asteman who are stationed in Hong-Kong and, after they finished checking to make sure it was in tune, it was on my door step in less than a week. Absolutely unreal.) The package comes with a carry bag, a pair of mallets, a stand, a cleaning cloth, and of course, the handpan itself. It was all beautifully packaged with care, and I was confident that, yes, my package wasn't banged around! Straight out of the box I put it on its little stand, which is the perfect height to play it while sitting on a low-sitting chair or on your knees, and I began to play. Now, I'm a novice, I obviously don't know good striking techniques right out of the box, but I COULD get good sounds out of it if I managed to hit it right, and not a single note felt dead. I will have to practice in order to get the full sound of the drum, but I invested in silicone finger picks to put at the end of my fingers which should make my strikes sound less horrendous while I'm learning. I am trying not to use the mallets as I know mallets are really bad to use with handpans, but so as long as I'm barely touching the notes I can still get sound out of this guy, so while I'm waiting for my finger picks I'm playing with the mallets VERY, VERY CAREFULLY as not to damage my drum. I recommend you do the same if you decide to use your mallets. Really, I mean barely tap it! All in all, this is a great instrument for the price. The sustain on this thing is unreal, the sound sounds better than every other low-cost handpan I've had the misfortune of hearing, and this is on par with a mid-level handpan. It's definitely not as good as the handpans that cost two grand though, so keep that in mind. Every note is one note, there's no different sounds on different axes, that I could find anyway. But like I said, I'm still learning, and I am still discovering the sounds of my own drum. Seriously, if you're deciding on a handpan and you're on a budget, go with Asteman, order the 432 hertz version to escape the Amazon warehouse mandhandling, and enjoy the fun of playing this extremely versatile instrument! Update: It's still in tune now that I learned proper striking techniques! It sounds heavenly. I will have to get another one in the F Pygmy scale sometime in the future! ... show more

  • This one wasn’t a scam!
Size: 440Hz Color: B-DC-10
The media could not be loaded. I honestly took a gamble on this one because I’ve gotten scam in the pass on another place that starts with E and end in tsy…. Now going back to other amazon reviews, most of the people that have complain about this Handpan doesn’t seem to know how to make it ring, and I’m no expert but I have seen handpan videos for almost 10 years and one thing I notice is how to ding it and omg it is a bit tricky, lol but I’m slowly getting the hang of it, I’ve been playing this handpan every single day since I got it on Friday 12/29/2023 and today is 1/1/2024 so three days, not a lot for a review but the sound is amazing and that’s what should matter, another thing I notice is the material is made based on the descriptions this will not rust like other cheaper handpans I’ve seen online… this one is actually worth the money, I wouldn’t pay anything lower than 600 now tbh… and I think 600 is cheap for a handpan… but if your doing this for a hobby and still get a beautiful sound out of trust me when I say I will buy another one for my dad, and one for my brother.. this is such a relaxing instrument!!! For anybody not knowing even tho it says on the description this one is the D Kurt (D minor) handpan with the addition of the highest note which it is really not needed but a good addition. ... show more

  • Wild looking, larger than expected. Sound is not perfect; but will do for a beginner.
Size: 440Hz Color: B-DC-10
This is a nice looking, drum. The swirling comet design is cool and makes the drum seem magestic as it sits upon its upside down chair. It appears appears slightly out of shape on one side. maybe a little off in it’s tuning…but in general a pleasant sound for a beginner …a good drum to learn on. The value for the money could not be beat. Only thing is it arrived with a tiny camp chair instead of the stand pictured. The camp chair must be placed upside down so the seat is on the floor, to allow for the sound to come out the bottom hole. So far it’s ok. ... show more

  • It is legit.
Size: 440Hz Color: G-STL-9
I purchased this for my husband for his birthday with a bit of worry and trepidation. It seemed too good to be true. He bought me a small tongue drum for my birthday 2 months ago and from there has become pretty much obsessed with this world of "zen drumming"( I don't know what to call it-lol) and things have escalated quickly with him purchasing a idiopan domina but still being consumed with the sound of hang drum. We have been looking around and they seemed pretty well out of our reach for something that is a new hobby not to mention no previous musical experience. I was pondering the larger idiopan or maybe a rav vast for his birthday but saw that Amazon had some more affordable hang drums. Most looked pretty dice-y to be honest. I started to do some research on Asteman on youtube and online and found that even though these appear to be made in China they seemed to be of good quality and handmade and even more enticing they were offering one of their drums on Prime with next day delivery. I threw caution to the wind and nervously placed my order- I mean, even though this is a "steal" compared to other hang drums it is still a pretty good chunk of change! We just had this delivered today, right on time, and were absolutely floored with the sound and beauty of this thing! My husband was immediately making the most beautiful music! The finish is much more beautiful than the photograph in my opinion and to my untrained ear sounds as lovely and resonant and harmonic as any of the expensive ones you see. They don't seem to offer any tuning other than D minor whereas the high profile companies offer all sorts of tuning variations but that is the one that is most appealing to my ear anyway and appears to be the most user friendly. All of the extras such as the bag, stand, braided cover, sticks and such are appreciated in that he has everything he needs right out of the box. Oh, and everything was perfectly packaged in a custom box. I would highly recommend this to anyone who is wanting to get one of the these drums but daunted by the price of most of them. ... show more
