This set looks good and it is neat. I would say on the middle quality side, beginner or just past that. -So the inner hinge busted not five minutes after opening. When they placed it they did it in such a way that it stopped the top from opening all the way, only a tiny bit. So when it was pushed a bit it not only opened to the “max” it ripped the bottom screw out. The hole was too stretched to hold any screw after that, I looked around for a similar screw that would work but the hole was too messed up for them to stay either. I mean it works without that hinge but just be aware. -The wood pattern is very nice but the inside that holds everything is clam shell like plastic material that you would expect from a much cheaper set and very sparingly hot glued in. -It does come with a decent selection of art supplies. -The quality is not the worst but it is not amazing either. -The sketch books are not bad, I would not necessarily use them for the water color as the paper is not quite thick enough. -On a similar note the pages hold color really well and don’t smudge, so that made our artest happy. -So far everything else works as it should. -The crayons work pretty smoothly and are not too waxy. -The color pencils draw smooth and don’t crumble like some others. We are very crafty and have gone through many of these and other than the outer case itself I would say it is on par with a set at least ½ the price. ... show more

I like this set and my son loves it! It is like any other basic large art set. But what sets it apart is the nice heavy wooden box it comes in. It makes it higher quality and nice for a gift. As for the art supplies inside they seem as good as the rest of the art setups like it. But again presentation is on point vomoared to plastic ones offered elsewhere. With it being a harder heaver case surface made of wood, it is heavier for travel so it may be difficult for very little kids, but is perfect for my 11 yo. It also makes for a good surface to place paper on top of to color on and makes a perfect lap desk for car travel etc. It also came with not 1 but 2 sketch books which was another really nice touch so your little artist can get right to work once received. This is a very nice sketch & colored pencil & pastels set. It comes with 24 pastels & 24 pencils with amazing bright, Bold & Vibrant colors with smooth coverage. The sketching pencils come in various thickness and firmness so you can get a wide range of shading out of them. The colored "lead" is medium firmness so you get good color application without having to press to hard and the point lasts pretty good - don't need to constantly be sharpening it. The pastels are a medium firmness that apples smoothly with no crumbling or chipping. They are easy to shade too which is a definate perk when working with pastels. I am very happy with the shades of colors and love the sturdy case they come in - very easy to pack into my backpack and the included sharpener is a nice one that sharpens quickly without causing the lead to chip. The crayons are a joke tho - like cheap non-toxic ones that barely even leave color and run down very fast. This is actually ok with me - I just took the trays out and added in my gel pens and another set of charcoal pencils. The watercolor pats are OK - not the best but OK. They offer good pigmentation and coverage. Watercolor is not a medium I use at all so I simple trimmed the plastic tray to just the pastels section and used the open space to store erasers and smudgers and strait edges. The sketch books are nice quality pages with good thickness and slight texture. Once the crayons are out the extra drawer space in the case is great for expanding the kit with your fav art supplies. This is a great set for adults and kids - everyone who likes sketching & coloring will enjoy these. ... show more

You’ve got pencils, two sketch pads, oil pastels, colored pencils, crayons, and some water color paints. All of it fits into a sturdy wooden carrying case. The fact that the case is a plain wooden case, makes this art set appropriate for artists of all ages. I purchased this set for my son who just turned 9. He wanted a case of art supplies, and this fit exactly what he was looking for. We’ve had it opened a few days, and so far, all of the art items work perfectly, and have remained in tact, in good condition. So, basically, it will withstand the rough usage of my 9 year adhd son, which should clue you into the durability. I really appreciated that the set also included not one but two sketch pads.
