I got this ARMPAL Mechanical Claw Model Kit for my son's birthday, thinking he would enjoy building and playing with it. Boy, was I right! The kit came with 190 laser-cut wooden pieces, a detailed instruction manual, and a guarantee of fun and learning. My son was ecstatic to start assembling the claw, and I decided to join him. We spent about 2.5 hours putting together the pieces, following the diagrams and instructions. The process was fun and relaxing, and we felt a sense of achievement when we finished the claw. We decided to test the claw by picking up some small objects around the house. The claw worked amazingly, grabbing and releasing things with precision. My son was delighted to see his creation work, and I was impressed by his engineering skills. We had a lot of fun playing with the claw, pretending to be spies and ninjas. But then things got even better. The claw started to show some personality. It began to move on its own, without us touching the controls. It started to pick up things that we needed, like my glasses, his wallet, and our keys. It helped us to organize them, and even reminded us where they were. I've done a ton of these wooden puzzle/models, and this one is really top tier in terms of how the company has designed it. From the packaging to the instructions to the part layout, everything makes it look like they just spent way more effort on the design of this thing. Highlights include - Instead of just throwing the non-wood items in a plain plastic tray, there's a specific themed insert to the box to organize everything. - Instructions are SUPER clear in well-written English, with multiple angles shown for some steps to make sure you get the orientation right. - Instructions use color (specifically yellow highlights) to call some things out so there's no risk of forgetting to wax some key component. - The parts are all cut in such away that none of them have any burs that would need to be sanded off for proper function. I mean there might be a few burs here and there, but sanding is not a necessary step like some kits. In fact, sandpaper is not even provided. It's so well done that my 9 year old was able to do everything by himself which is the only one of these kits we've done so far that I could say that about. The material is sort of a pressed fiberboard rather than an actual sheet of wood, but that's better for this application because there's less of a chance of breakage while punching out or assembling. - Made in China The laser cuts are well done, everything's lining up fine and no trimming needed. The wood is on the cheaper side, looks and feels like OSB and is bendy. It's fun, on the medium-difficult side, but the wood just isn't as good looking as others we've done.

I could have taken more time to savor putting this claw together, but I wanted to have it ready for Halloween so I could use the claw to drop candy into trick-or-treaters' bags. (My long-suffering wife looked at me when I said this and asked, "Well, what else would you use it for?") Assembly took me somewhere between two and three hours over three sessions. I was able to assemble this entirely using just what's included. I had a craft knife handy in case I needed to cut some of the pieces out of the wood or trim some edges, but everything snapped out fairly straightforwardly. There are several screws that need to be screwed in, but a small screwdriver is provided. The instructions are good, but being language-independent are not always 100% clear. (That might be a feature rather than a bug if you like figuring things out.) I initially wondered if I should snap out all the pieces first and lay them out before starting assembly (DON'T -- unless you want an extra challenge), but i realized some of the pieces are so small their part numbers are only printed on the board, not the part itself. Assembly does take some care; the pieces that click into place really don't want to come back apart. ... show more

I have nothing bad to say about this. I had fun assembling it, and fun using it. It's not going to pick up heavy items, and they warn you in the instructions. Took me about 2 and a half hours to complete and included enough spare parts so you should be safe in case you damage a piece of it. It uses silicone rings instead of rubber bands, so it should function longer than other similar kits I've assembled. The claw and trigger are separate units and can be attached and detached with ease. Comes with all the tools needed to assemble it and a very detailed instruction book that walks you step by step of the entire process. ... show more

    • Smooth construction and a fun mechanism!
I've put together several wooden cutout puzzles, and I can say this is the smoothest one yet. Usually you have to sand some features here and there, or some pieces don't quite turn or fit well. I had no problems with this model at all. There are arrows on the pieces themselves to make sure they're lined up correctly, and pieces click into place.     • My daughter walks around like she's RoboCop!
This was probably one of the better kids that I've ever seen belt. It's amazing what some would, rubber bands, and plastic clips can do. It assembled easily, but did take some time and when it was complete it looked fantastic and was very sturdy. She has had an absolute blast walking around at this on her arm and making robot noises.
