  • This thing is sweeet!
Wife and I wanted to hang our 42" plasma on the wall but we didn't want a bunch of cords laying around going from the surround sound receiver to the speakers and all that other mess of wires. This little gem allowed me to route my SS wires through the walls to sub jacks for the rear an side speakers AND I put my satellite hook up in there AND my Ethernet port AND had room for 2 surge protecting outlets, not GFI outlets. Actual surge protecting outlets. it was a weekend project and it look pretty good. There are still a few errant wires I'm working on hiding better and my SS receiver is a little too big for the shelf on our new hanging wall shelf unit. Just some bugs to iron out. I give the Arlington box a 10+. Well built, the instructions are in good old American English, not engrish, and who could ask for more than that? Oh yeah one more thing. I bought my TV wall mount at [...] for $19.00 plus shipping. When I got it out of the box i realized it was the exact same one I had been looking at in my local audio store for $120 in a different box. ... show more

  • Mfgr specs & pics missing from the Amazon description
This is my new favorite TV install item! Easy to install, large, and works great! Deep enough for a small AC adapter or two. Electrical code (& common sense) requires high voltage wiring be physically separated from low voltage wiring. Amazon's pics don't show it installed, but BE SURE TO USE THE (supplied) SEPERATOR if you'll be using 3 low-voltage plates + an AC power outlet. (Not needed if using 2 AC power outlets + 1-2 low voltage plates.) See add'l pic, captured from the mfgr's spec sheet. Also attached is the mfg's diagram, including exact measurements. ... show more

  • Good thick box, mounting faceplates is the only issue
Good quality, thick plastic. Looks good. Only issue I had with it is the faceplate screws (-1 star). Getting them to screw into the holes took a major effort to do it and not strip out the holes or the heads of the screws. The tolerances of the holes are too tight. Otherwise, this box has worked well and is solidly built. ... show more

  • A must have for wireless installs! Worth it's weight in gold.
I buy one of these for every TV I install. It is a MUST have for anybody wanting a wire free installation. First of all, this installs perfectly between two studs (16" on center) so it's incredibly easy to pull wire to the point. It's also hard to mess up cutting the hole since it goes from stud to stud. The plastic is very strong, and will last forever. It's very easy to install by yourself, and has a large trim ring that covers most any over cutting you might have done in the process of drywall removal. It has enough open mounting point to install low voltage wires (network, HDMI balin points, etc) as well as a double gang for two outlets. I have installed these black, and white. I usually mount a wireless hub in the box as well so my wireless network will be boosted throughout the house without needing a new drop somewhere (and it remains hidden) ... show more

  • Lessons Learned - Installation
I am happy with this product. I have some "Lessons Learned" after installing it, not with the product itself, with the general installation, that I'll describe below. Last night I used this product when hanging my TV above my fireplace. My fireplace is one of the "fake" fireplaces, one of the metal inserts with a small flue so there was plenty of space in the wall. Since my fireplace is up against my garage I was able to cut a small hole in the garage to see inside the wall and plan the installation. To the left of the fireplace is the nook where the components are sitting. I cut two holes in the right side of the nook, against the fireplace wall to install DataComm 45-0001-WH Recessed Low Voltage Cable Plate for running the HDMI cables. I put one higher and one lower to give me flexibility in moving my components around. There is a light switch on the left side of the fireplace, by the nook, that I used to connect power to the electrical outlet. I had found the studs when installing the mount Sanus Systems Vmt14-B1 Visionmount Super-Slim Mount. I cut a small hole along the stud to make sure I was in the right spot; flush agains the stud. Then I used the actual box to trace the hole onto the wall with a pencil instead of using the dimensions in the instructions. After cutting the hole to size I fed the power from the existing light switch over and fed it through the hole in the wall and into the outlet box. The hole in the outlet is designed to prevent the power line from slipping back through so make sure to leave yourself some slack. I also fed the HDMI cable through to the nook and taped it in both places so it wouldn't fall back into the hole. Once all the wires/cables were in place I popped the outlet box into the hole in the wall and screwed the longer screws into the studs and it was pretty secure. Make sure you cut out the knockouts. They are in there pretty secure and could break the box if you try and bend them out. For the power outlet I used a Leviton 7280-W Decora Duplex Surge Suppressor Receptacle. Lessons Learned 1. The TV mount has kickstands that hold it from the wall so you can install the cables. Well, I installed the box where the kickstands should be hitting the wall. So, now they are useless. Make sure that if you have kickstands you install the box so that it is above or below where they hit the wall. 2. The wall in the nook is actually two boards thick. So, when I installed the cable plate it didn't insert into the wall deep enough and I had to cut an arch at the top of the hole to allow the cords room to fit. 3. When cutting the holes in the nook I got too close to the back wall and had a hard time maneuvering the saw, I kept hitting the wall. 4. The cables slip back through the holes really easily, so tape BOTH ends to the wall or something. 5. When installing the faceplates on the power and other things in the box, use the shortest screws to make sure the faceplate is secure. There isn't enough room for a longer screws that come with some faceplates. ... show more

  • Does the job just fine.
I bought this to get the clean wall look with my TV mounted on the wall and this box does a fine job of giving me plenty of recessed space to hide the cords and still get everything fed to the TV. Don't know why they felt the need to put a two gang box on the power side, but it comes with a divider to let you legally put a low voltage item next to it. I have the leviton outlet with built in surge protector, a component video/stereo sound wall plate and another wall plate with one coax and one 3.5" headphone jack (for the IR receiver. The satellite converter and DVD player are in a different room). My only problem was I failed to measure exactly where the hookup area of my TV would be once mounted on a low profile wall mount so it is pushing the component video connectors hard against the wall, but it hasn't been a big deal. ... show more

  • Perfect for my project
I was impressed with the quality when I first opened this item. It is sturdy plastic and the design was just what I needed for my install. I wanted double outlets, which it had and I needed three cables for the tv feed which it had room for. It fit great between two studs which allowed it to be mounted securely. ... show more
