This is a good utilitarian carpet which does not require you to purchase a backing pad or other non slip material to keep the rug from sliding unsafely under your feet. It has the same type of backing as a good bathroom rug and holds most floors pretty well. The pile is really low and does not harbor dirt easily. Becasue it is polyester, it will not easily stain and is generally fairly simple to keep clean--you can literally wipe it clean with a little spray cleaner and a rag. Seller says that you can also put it into the washer but it isn't small enough to fit into any washer that I own. Perhaps at the laundromat. The pattern is described as BoHo. It seems sort of chic, a little worn in a nice way and pretty low key. The colors are faded and soft. I did notice that it can be staticy in the dry weather but that spraying it with a bit of wrinkle release or rubbing it with a dryer sheet helped quite a bit (although it made it a bit more slick.) there were no off odors or other chemical smells noticed after it had a few minutes to air from the vacuum seal. I got this rug for your living room area between the couch and the tv. The rug is on the thinner side, but still feels really nice and soft. It has a non slip back, so that's also nice and you don't have to purchase or use anything else to keep it down and in place. Mine's the black detailing with the boho design and I like it. It has a semi distressed look, which I feel like so many rugs anymore have that detail to them. It's easy to vacuum, after laying flat for a week all the creasing came out.
