  • Super Cover Supports, for Boat, Snowmobile, or other needs
These are VERY GOOD cover supports! I really like the heavy square (with round corners) metal plate bottom with black foam on the bottom. These provide good support and help keep the poles from moving and from falling over. The strong steel poles are attached to the plate with a special bolt fitted to the oval hole. However, the pole can only be bolted on finger-tight (or only by hand, no meaningful way to use a tool). There is also no washer – split or star – supplied, and even if you add one, it might not fit. I notice that without the washer that the pole can become loose over time. The top plastic ‘mushroom caps’ are nice and heavy, and don’t deform easily. The pole top has a threaded hole [the same size as the bottom pole] but there is no hole in the cap to attach with a screw. Not really an issue as the weight of the tarp or cover should keep the caps pressed into place on the poles. In addition to supporting the cover on my boat, I plan to use these during the winter, when the boat is in storage, to hold a tarp over my snowmobiles. I can place the supports between the two snowmobiles and form a tent shape so the rain and snow can roll off. Otherwise the tarp would sag between the sleds and form a valley where the snow, ice, and water accumulate. In either use, the poles can be supported by running guy lines or ropes from the holes in the cap down to the floor or trailer side. As strong as these support poles are in compression, they likely would be happy to get bent over something while having a large load of snow. With only minor issues, I feel good about giving these poles all 5 stars. ... show more

  • Exactly what I needed
My family has always stored out boat in our yard, which has meant that every year we add a water slick tarp or two before the rainy season in the hopes of reducing the chance of puddles on our cover (and subsequent leaks into the floorboards and mold). These support poles are perfect for simplifying how we protect our boat and I love how stable and sturdy they are. The base is nice and wide with a foam layer underneath to help grip to the floor of the boat, the poles themselves are firm and stable, and they can extend much higher than we'll need and are snug when they lock in place. I also appreciate that the poles came with non-slip gloves since they are so useful for setting these up during the winter. The only notes I have are that it would have been nice if they came with straps for securing them or even instructions detailing suggested methods for securing it. Other than that, I am so happy to have found this set and it'll make things much easier. ... show more

  • Nicer than the typical tripod type
As you can see from my photo, we're having a cold, rainy day, and the cover I have on my classic wooden boat has been collecting water in a couple of spots. I got these APXL support poles to remedy that situation, which they're doing nicely. I've been using a combination of one tripod-type cover support pole and some other boards to try to "tent" my boat cover, but it's always better when you can get the center up higher than the gunwales more than I could before. These poles have a nice, solid metal base with soft padding covering the entire underside. The bases don't spread as wide as a tripod's legs, which might sacrifice stability, except that the added weight pretty much makes up for it. Ultimately, when the cover is cinched down, there's not a stability issue with either type. I do much prefer the twist & lock types poles on these over the threaded sectional poles on my other ones. This type is simply much more versatile, and you don't have spare parts lying around if you don't need the pole extended to its full height as you do with sectional poles. Overall, I'm very happy with these, and I know they'll help keep my baby dry. ... show more

  • Just the item I need for my bass boat
These support poles are an excellent addition to my boat's necessities. The base is weighted to prevent the poles from falling over in strong wind while covered. The base also has a protective covering on the bottom to protect the boat floor. The poles screw into the base and the top support which is a nylon cone. The poles extend from roughly 32" to 72". Each section of the pole is marked indicating its safe extension limit. Each top nylon cone has openings to attach straps or ropes to allow for a more even placement of the boat cover. The support poles are made from corrosion-resistant ( not corrosion-proof) stainless steel. The kit includes a pair of pimple palm gloves to assist with tightening the rods so they don't slip in our hands. The user manual consists of one page printed on both sides. The instructions are to the point and easy to follow. Having viewed other available pole cover sets, I would say, based on its features, this is one of the better sets available on Amazon. I can comfortably recommend this kit. If necessary I wouldn't hesitate to purchase it if I needed another set. ... show more

  • Get these!!
Oh my gosh! These poles are amazing!! The factory poles that came with my custom boat cover are nothing compared to these poles. I was stunned when I opened them up. They retract and open easily and hold in place at the height you want them with just a small twist of the pole. The base is incredible! It is a square solid, somewhat heavy base that even has a foam like material on the back to keep it from sliding on the boat floor. My other poles are something like a tension shower curtain rod on the bottom so they are easy to accidently hit and knock down when trying to put the boat cover on. These new poles and bases are going to solve so many issues! I can't wait for boat season to use these!! GET THESE! YOU WILL NOT REGRET IT. ... show more

  • They would be great if they locked....
The poles are designed to be the twist lock style, however 1 pole both sections will almost get tight enough to hold themselves in place before they come loose again. I can turn and turn as many times as I want they get a little tight, then loose again. The 2nd pole the bottom section is that way, the top section will get just tight enough you think it is going to lock, then it come loose. On the positive side the base is wide and heavy so they would stay upright if you did manage to get them to stay extended. ... show more
