In a cleaning frenzy, I accidentally threw my Apple Remote away. $60 in the landfill. So I very reluctantly ordered a new one. I love the remote, don’t get me wrong, I wouldn’t have spent $60 on a remote if I didn’t. But Apple needs to stop with the high prices because it has an Apple logo. This remote is a $40 remote to me. I have the AppleTV 4K 1st Generation A1842 and thought my only hope of having a different genuine Apple Remote was to buy a new Apple TV unit one day. This product changed everything. Why Apple allowed that little black remote with awful touchpad to be produced is beyond me, arguably the worst thing to ever come from Apple is that little remote. This option is excellent, works flawlessly and feels more like a real remote control in your hands. If you love the touchpad from your original remote this one still has a similar feature with the circle pad but in so many different ways. Works almost like a click wheel where you can run your finger around clockwise to advance frames or counter clockwise to reverse/rewind. This feels better in my hands and has more weight to it as well as a more ergonomic feel thanks to the curved bottom. The buttons are stronger and give more of a click feel and, now you can turn off the unit without having to go into the menu and tell it to sleep. The latest version also charges via USB-C which is fine with me, but unless you have a charging cable already you’ll need to buy one because a charging cable is not included. This one does not charge with your lighting cable! I’ve heard there are some out there from the original replacement remote batch that did charge with a lightning cable but I can’t promise that. Very please with this remote, very happy that I didn’t have to buy a new AppleTV unit just to get a new remote. ... show more

Great remote, the only issue is that the circular black center dial is touch, and too sensitive if you use it to fast forward or select. You can press the outer ring instead.

    • Best Apple Remote Version!
The is by far the best version/generation of Apple Remotes! It is more durable, still touch responsive (just within the circle) and has the added directional, mute and power buttons. Now you can power off your Apple TV instead of going to Settings and scrolling down. Not surprising, connection was a breeze. Took it out of the box, walked up to the Apple TV, held down the buttons instructed and done - it was paired. It was seriously under 30 secs. So very glad I got the brand name and not a knock off. My old remote died or broke or something in between . I purchased this newer version and it worked great. A lot better features. Is authentic. Connected easily. Buttons are easier to use. Battery lasts months.

Despite other reviews, this device works just as advertised. DO NOT TRY TO USE THE "Learn Remote" feature on the Apple TV, it will fail. Use the pairing instructions in the booklet that came with the remote and it will work just fine, shouldn't take more than 15 seconds. Also, there is no indicator that the remote is charging until you pair it to the Apple TV... ... show more

Older Apple TV remotes were so bad. No mute button, no power button, and they went through that awful touch-pad phase. We’ve replaced all of ours with this one. It has a mute button and you can quell all of the touch-sensitive features in the settings so that it is not sensitive to swiping with the fingers. Simple and dependable; you just click right, left, up, or down on the wheel. Some might want the touch-sense features, but we don’t. Plus, it has a power on/off button that operates the Apple TV and the TV in some cases. Usually, no other remote is required. ... show more
