  • For what you pay, it's a pretty good value, but BE CAREFUL!
Color: Blue
I tested all of the attachments and actually used this to drill, grind, and polish a thin piece of mild steel that I was shaping to add to a musical instrument. It did the job. That said ... If you've never used one of these before (I have quite a bit of mechanical and drilling experience, but none with a "rotary tool"), then you should definitely watch some online videos to get some idea of how to handle these - what they can be used for, and what they can't. There are some decent written instructions in the included booklet, about how to configure the tool in the package, and approximate speeds to use for various jobs. But there is nothing to tell you what each bit does, and what it can be used for. As an example, when taking off the sharp edges on the (roughly) 22 gauge or less soft steel piece I had, I found the pink stone abrasive grinder bits actually disintegrated with even a light touch! In fact, with only about five minutes of use, I pretty much used up one of the abrasive bits, and it is in such poor shape now that I think it would be unsafe to use again. On the other hand, I was able to use the wire wheel to polish the steel, and that worked out nicely. The included drill bits were not small enough for the holes I needed to make, so I got a 1/16" bit from my regular carbide drill index. That worked OK, but I had to go SLOW, even in that soft, thin steel. The motor bogged down very, very easily. So, while this unit is supposedly more powerful than most any other sold by the manufacturer - it is, in fact, not that strong. It's rated at 135W, for reference. I think the Dremel has a 180W motor. I only revved it up to about 25,000 rpm, because I didn't want to completely tear up the bits I used the first time, but it did rev freely all the way up to maximum speed - until you touched the bit to the workpiece. :) Finally, I tried using a buffing wheel by attaching it to a mandrel. That didn't really do anything to the metal I wanted to polish, except shred the felt on the wheel. I was much better off with the wire brush polishing wheel. I was unable to find anything in the instruction booklet about how to attach the keyless chuck to the tool. But I figured it out: you use the supplied wrench to detach the keyed chuck that is on the tool when it is delivered, and then screw on the keyless chuck in its place. Once you have screwed the new chuck on all the way, the jaws begin to move. I definitely like the keyless chuck! As another noted in his review, the regular chuck was somewhat out of round. It vibrated at high speed. However, the keyless chuck ran true. Pretty much no vibration. So I used that as much as possible. Apparently a lot of people have a tough time attaching the extension shaft. The manufacturer tells you how to do that in the instruction booklet AND on the tool package box itself. It's really not difficult if you have a little mechanical ability, although it would be nice to have three hands so you don't get grease on your clothes, or bend the shaft while you try to tighten the chuck around the flexible shaft. You MUST use the keyed chuck to hold the extension shaft. And that was probably the only place I really noticed a lack of build quality (other than the bits). The extension shaft is very light duty. Don't think you are going to drill into steel, and grind away at rock. You may be able to do both, but you won't be going very fast - at all. This tool will work for you, but you need to take it easy. You can't manhandle it, or something will break. In other words, it's great to learn with, and to do small jobs. But if you are going into production, or doing heavier work, you'll need one of the top of the line Dremel tools. BE CAREFUL: I noticed that it is easy to leave the shaft locked on the tool after you tighten the keyed chuck. Which means you can easily forget you left the locking button pressed in while switching on power to the unit. BAD IDEA! I didn't do it, but I got pretty close! The same thing can happen with the extension shaft. It has a locking wrench that you can accidentally leave connected to the shaft. I don't even want to think about what would happen if you started the motor with that wrench stuck in place. Yikes! Overall, for the $27 I paid, I think this tool provides a lot of versatility. The included extension shaft is a big deal. You just don't get that unless you spend about twice as much for another inexpensive unit. Or 4X to 5X as much for a Dremel tool. So given the extremely low price point, I think this is a pretty good deal. It is not a Dremel, or a $500 dentist's tool. But it does hold a bit and move it around at 30,000 rpm. And if you're careful, you can do some precision work. I would recommend it to others to buy. Especially if they want to learn how to use a rotary tool, or to do a few light jobs around the house. Good job, APEXFORGE! ... show more

  • A Simple Fix for Noise problem and My Honest review
Color: Blue
First off - a Fix you might need: After several uses, the tool started making a clattering noise. It got louder over time and more use. I thought the gears were shot or something bad. I found I could squeeze the body and quiet it down. So, I just tried tightening the 6 small phillips screws that hold the plastic body together. All were able to be tightened by 1/4 to a full turn. That totally fixed the noise problem. It was just something inside hitting the plastic body, since it was out of alignment, due to not-fully-tightened screws. The screws are just the ones you see right on the outside. See Photo highlighting one of the screws I'm referring to. Update - Just an FYI - The seller is very proactive with this product, with communication and support. I don't know any new outcome at this time, but I wanted to share that the seller seems to care what happens to its customers. Apart from the noise issue- This was a decent value, with all the accessories you get. The detailer handle, shield, and replacement brushes, for example, set this set apart from competitors. The tool itself: It works fine, but I find it to be very slightly underpowered. It bogs down a little easier at higher speed. It's possibly that it's 1 Amp, where other similar units are 1.2 to 1.4 Amps. Also, the motor seems to fluctuate speed slightly sometimes when running. And I shouldn't have to diagnose a problem/tighten the thing after a just short time... Hence the 3 star review. I have another similar rotary tool I can compare to. That other one even came in the identical plastic storage case. No issues with that other one -in a longer time period. ... show more

  • Pays for itself in one use.
Color: Yellow
I have never owned the name brand one of these but I bought this to use around the garage. First up I sharpened all my pruning sheers and clippers. All of them had never been sharpened and were over 10 years old. They work like new again. Cost of going out and buying new clippers and pruners more than the 39 I spent on this thing. These were good sheers and pruners. I did try it on a crappy pair, I did not have the same success but they did work a little better. Don’t let the bits influence you to buy this as you will use them once and toss. The wire brush deformed from a cup shape to a flat brush wheel and lost about 1/3 of its bristles in one use on the tree trimmers. Maybe I over sped the bit or put too much pressure but I wasn’t abusing it harshly. Would buy again. One use pays for itself. I will update if longevity is an issue. Check the date I wrote this. ... show more
