I need shelter from the sun but our umbrella bit the dust last year, and I’ve been really wanting more shade for our deck. I considered doing a DIY awning with piping and canvas, but the cost and time wasn’t worth it. I’ve seen the pergolas in the big box stores and really liked the look. So I measured the deck area and started looking on Amazon. It took forever to find one that would fit the area. And then I found this one, and because it actually had a picture with measurements that helped all the more. It also had pull down shades and everything I was looking for. Except reviews. 😳 but out of all the other ones I looked at, this one fit and had the best pics of measurements. And was really around the same price as all the others. So I ordered it and it arrived I think about a week. My husband put it together and it took him a little over an hour, until he did the retractable awning… that took a bit of time because at that point the instructions got a bit confusing… but after some trial and error we figured it out. We did end up loosing one of the slider hooks that lock it in place, and when I contacted the company they were quick to respond and the replacement arrived within two days. The pergola frame itself was a little low and couldn’t clear the door so my husband made 4” risers for it. It’s secured to our deck. And when the wind blows it stays put. I’m absolutely very satisfied and happy with this. I feel like I’m up in a tree house. My neighbors have all come to see it. We had rain the first night we put it up and the awning was closed, but when I opened it the next day there was no water trapped in the folds due to the little drip holes they have in there. Again I absolutely love this and extremely happy with our purchase!!! UPDATE: it rained yesterday and we had the awning open and everything under it stayed dried! If you just want a cheap basic pergola. This is it. The deal was pretty good. The plastic caps on the top doesn’t stay on. One of the legs isn’t completely straight where they connect. Needs a little better design there.

    • Difficult assembly, feels flimsy but read on on

The media could not be loaded. Looks great once assembled but be prepared for a long assembly, 6 hours for 1 person with a little help from a 2nd, that is trial and error caused by minimal instructions. Will need a mallet to pop in the caps at the 4 tops and connecting the roof tarp to the aluminum rods was challenging. There are rings and little explanation. They need to be on the middle and 2 ends. As for rain and storms, we will see. We would obviously keep the roof tarp closed to avoid heavy rain gathering. We drilled into the concrete -that was the only way I would feel safe that it won't blow away. We get some rainy windy days here in NY. Definitely did not expect too much for the price but fairly happy overall it does it look nice and does the job shading us from the sun setting where we get full sun in the west. I have hopes for its longevity (but set in reality) and will update. ... show more

We have a stone patio that get so hot that it is almost impossible to use in the summer. This pergola was a very nice addition! I was skeptical, but it provides a surprising amount of shade and cools the area nicely. It is attractive and sturdy enough. We have only hadn’t up for a couple of days but so far, so good in normal weather conditions. For the price, I think it is a great value! My husband is not especially handy and was able to get it put together fairly easily and was able to do most of it by himself. The doggies are loving sleeping under it in the shade and that is all that really matters, lol! ... show more

    • Don't waste your time - Garbage
On picture it looks very functional, in reality it’s cheap material. The roof canopy is constructed out of two ½” hollow pipes that are loosely attached to each other. When you move the canopy back. The entire canopy falls off, and you would need to reassemble them. The posts are 3” x 3” hollow constructed out of two pieces attached together with ½” screws. I’m a contractor so in order to reinforce it I had to cut 2x12 pressure treated lumber into 2 x ½” to fit inside the posts, by the time I went to Home Depot got the lumber a strong wind bent the whole thing (wasted another $70 on lumber) I purchased two of them, I really liked the design and function, unfortunately like many items today they come from cheap China and are worthless. The instructions are very unclear, took me two and half hours to assemble with power tools, and a helper. Don’t even try to use the supplied Allen keys, unless you want to kill a whole day. Requested a return label from amazon and so far, received a Return Authorization Slip without a prepaid label, going to waste more time calling Amazon to make sure I get a prepaid return label. Shipping this garbage will be more expensive than the item itself. ... show more

I love that this pergola has the side shades, I do wish it had some on all sides so we could have south and west sides down. The directions are tough to follow and the end caps warped so they do not fit properly. For the price though it works for what we need it for.

Relatively easy to assemble, looks nice. You cant stay under in rain but i dont think thats expected here. Hot sunny days feel better under it and i love the side covers for extra shadow. Just great
