The main reason I chose this table was because of the split top. I love the idea of not everything that's on my table has to be lifted up. We have some expensive glass art work on our table and the thought of having to secure them everytime I want to color or ny husband wants to paint, etc... I put the table together myself, so it wasn't too hard and the instructions were pretty clear. My only complaint is the lift hing. For the price I paid for this table I guess I was assuming it would come with a fancy, no noise, barely have to do anything to make it work kind of hing. I was wrong, it's just a cheaper one that makes a bit of noise and usually (if there is a lot of stuff in the table at the time) requires both my husband and I to both assist in lowering or lifting the table top. I've been looking for a square lift top coffee table for years. This is the closest I've come to finding what I've been looking for. I wish the hardware was not so flimsy/cheap; the hinge mechanism is stiff and does not open/close smoothly or in unison. Now I have to try to find replacement hardware. ... show more

This is a great piece of furniture, especially for the price. It takes a bit of time and patience to put it together but if you follow the instructions step for step it will all come together. Well made and sturdy. Extremely pleased with this purchase.
