Although I’ve rated 5 stars, I would deduct a half star. I was hesitant at first, but decided I didn’t have much to lose by spending $80, so I went for it. So far I’m glad I did. The pole is incredibly light, but not weak feeling. Seems to lock securely. My only issue is that there was an oily residue on the outside of each one of the extension poles. It smelled like old motor oil and felt greasy. I don’t know if this is normal, but I wiped off as much as I could with some paper towels. It was indeed oily and black. I wish the cable exited on the side like the more expensive ones, but you can’t get everything you want for this price. I just wrap the cable around the outside anyway so no big deal. I tested the boom pole and am pleased with the construction. One issue, the foam handles have a very strong (chemical?) smell. Other than that, Very happy with the purchase.

    • Incredibly light, super sturdy
When I bought this, I had intended to use it for a little while before upgrading to a nicer one which I'd use long term. After a few shots with this, I don't think I'll have any reason to upgrade after all. It's shockingly light and yet strong enough that I'm not even slightly concerned about it. This is every but as nice as the Rode and K-Tec carbon fiber poles I've used in the past, but for a fraction of the price. ... show more

    • So light, it makes the mic seem heavy.
This is a good piece of kit, very very light. I’ve been using this with a Rode NTG 5 and standard holder. The Mic assembly seems heavier than the pole. I have used it with a little carbon grease (bicycle carbon grease I had for my bikes) and it’s very smooth. The locking rings feel solid too.     • Too weak to mount from the end cap
I had the boom vertically mounted with less than a pound attached to the end and it only took a slight gust of wind to snap. The carbon fiber tapers to only a single layer with a thin thread layer at the end cap, this effectively makes the boom unable to support even a couple pounds of weight if end mounted. Instead of returning, I've ground down the threads on the end cap and epoxied the tube in their place. So far this seems to be far stronger than the original design. ... show more

    • Damaged from factory, but I fixed it.
Materials were fine, but this was obviously assembled wrong at the factory. Glue or something hindered the movement of the third section unless the knob was completely undone and the knob staying with the top section. I carefully pried and released possibly some excess glue and it works normally now. Shipped directly from the factory in China- it's probably made as ordered, so shipping took awhile longer than we're used to, to receive a defective unit.     • Pole is about 10cm shorter than described
I really struggled with this star rating. First of all, the pole is actually fantastic and a great price for what it's worth (I paid about $70). The pole I received though was shorter than the description. It says 300cm when fully extended but mine is about 290cm. This might seem trivial depending on use but for my purposes every bit counts. Besides, how is one supposed to rate something that doesn't come as described? I thought about giving it 1-star based solely on this line of thinking. I also thought about giving it 3-stars because it's otherwise still a really great product. I found a compromise with a 2-star rating. If you don't need the full 3 meters, then you have my recommendation to buy and would give it 5 stars without hesitation. P.S. the narrowest shaft has a diameter of 19mm. I was looking for this spec but didn't find it and thought others might want to know. Was hoping it'd be more than 10mm and was really glad it was still as thick at 19mm. ... show more

    • Bad odor, but well-made and like a feather!
Has a strong chemical odor that I am sure will fade away over time. Otherwise well built, durable, and extremely lightweight.
