Not really thick but super soft and promises to be washable which is great for a dorm room. They say it’s slippery. Unless you have elderly people around it is fine. We placed a fairly thick carpet pad under it and it is very nice and stays in place. I wouldn’t plan to use it without one because it is thin and would slide around. Recommend one rated for non slippage and made of 1/2” or so felt with rubber backing. Bought one of these, then had to buy 2 more. The kids loved it, the dogs loved it and gotta say I love it too. Not to big or to small for next to the bed. I loved the softness of the rug. When it arrived the package was small and I was worried until I opened it and was pleasantly surprised when it expanded to a full fluffy rug. It took the cat at least a month before she'd step on it because she was suspicious of the fluffiness. It thoroughly entertained me. I purchased this for the dogs I pet sit, some don't like sitting on a concrete floor when it's 105 degrees outside with the heat index, who would have thought. The rug is nice and fits where I wanted it to be and if the dogs and cats are happy, than I'm happy.
