Ok so I replaced an r 5 3600. I play Tarkov almost exclusively and so I have a decent frame of reference for performance in the game having spent hours watching guides and tweaking settings to squeeze as much as possible out of that cpu and a 1660 super. After I dropped in the new CPU and ran through the new hardware annoyances in window and the tarkov launcher I started playing games. My first indication of performance gain was menu navigation but the hideout in particular. I can snap through menu's like your favorite streamer now. Zippy. Then in game I was seeing 20-30 fps gains on average. Temperatures were not as bad as I expected only seeing several degrees higher temps at idle and peak. Screenshot of HWmonitor included after a few maps. Then I enabled FSR 2.2 and changed nothing else. Simply toggled FSR 2.2 on. This setting did nothing on 3600 but as the screenshot shows frames jumped into the 150's and I'm seeing high 160's at times. Here's the part that makes even less sense to me, it dropped my temps 3-4 degrees on cpu and gpu. Kind of flabbergasted. ... show more

  • VS 5800X
Style: Processor Only
I have an overclocked 5800X(PBO+150/Per Core CO), was not expecting much from this processor. With my custom loop, the 5800x would sit at 4.8ghz while gaming, 5800X3D@4.45ghz. With a decent overclock the 5800x is equivalent to this chip in games that don't leverage the cache. The limitation of my current build at 1440p is my 6800XT(2600/2100@1050mV- 333W). However for games that leverage the cache its no contest, Far Cry 5 saw an insane increase in FPS from avg of 150 to 200 with the built in benchmark. In game it was more impressive hitting over 250fps in some areas, basically a tier up GPU upgrade. Unfortunately the gains were not as impressive in all games, flat to ~10%. The best thing about this CPU is that it is truly plug and play, just run DOCP at your memory rated speed and you are done. It took significantly more time to dial the OC on the 5800X. Bottom line is this thing is stupid fast right of the box, which is more than enough for most people. Yes, I know if I had a faster GPU the 5800X3D would have been more impressive, that is why I gave it 5 stars. ... show more

  • It just works
Style: Processor Only
I have been using the 5800X3D for the past few weeks, and I am very impressed with its gaming performance. In my testing, it consistently outperformed the Intel Core i9-12900K in both 1080p and 1440p gaming. In some games, the difference was as much as 20%. The 3D V-Cache technology is really what makes the Ryzen™ 7 5800X3D so special. It allows the CPU to access data much faster than traditional CPUs, which is essential for gaming. In games that are heavily dependent on memory bandwidth, the Ryzen™ 7 5800X3D can provide a significant performance boost. In addition to its gaming performance, the Ryzen™ 7 5800X3D is also a very efficient CPU. It has a TDP of just 105W, which means that it doesn't require a high-end cooler. This makes it a good choice for gamers who are looking for a powerful CPU that doesn't generate a lot of heat. Overall, I am very impressed with the AMD Ryzen™ 7 5800X3D. It is the best gaming CPU on the market, and it is also very efficient. If you are looking for a CPU that will give you the best possible gaming experience, the Ryzen™ 7 5800X3D is the way to go. ... show more

  • Great upgrade from the 2800x
Style: Processor Only
I know it’s a little dated. But I needed an upgrade from the 2800x, and wasn’t ready to spend the money to get beyond the am4 chipset. Once I got this one installed, there was an incredible difference in the gaming performance on my PC. This processor plus my 6750xt GPU we’re awesome budget choices. I almost feel relevant again for roughly $600. Just a quick reminder for other casuals.. update your motherboard bios before installing the new CPU. I know, foolish mistake. But I had forgot and it was very annoying having to swap back out, update, and swap again. Cheers ... show more

  • Great Performance, but Needs an AIO Cooler
Style: Processor Only
I upgraded from a Ryzen 2600x processor because it was bottlenecking with the new GPU that I purchased. The upgrade process was easy. I just updated the BIOS software on my B450 board and I was good to go. I've seen a noticeable improvement in gaming. This processor does run hot, though. When I ran the initial stress tests, temperature shot above 90 degrees withing 20 seconds with my Coolermaster 212 EVO. So, I had to grab an AIO liquid cooler. ... show more

  • The best investment for gaming on the AMD AM4 platform
Style: Processor Only
Review for the 5800X3D: I put off upgrading my son's gaming PC because he games at 1440p resolution and, according to the reviews I read, the 5800X3D CPU is best at improving 1080p gaming performance but the reviews were wrong. I used several static benchmarks as well as multiple real-time counters during gameplay of online and offline games and almost all games tested showed a near 100% improvement. Borderlands 3 went from 81FPS to 150FPS, Valorant from 210FPS to 400FPS, Fortnite from 140FPS to 220FPS. I purchased the 5800X3D at $289 and at that price it is an exceptional value. Upgraded from a Ryzen 5 3600 so I expected an improvement but not nearly double at 1440p! ... show more

  • Best AM4 CPU for anything
Style: Processor Only
Slow changing my setup and went from a 3600 to now this. The improvements are huge if you’re coming from a 3600 and if you aren’t ready to dish out big cash on AM5 yet then this is as good as it gets. I’ve thrown a decent amount of modern AAA games and it handles it like a champ. The temps can be pretty high for this so definitely make sure you have the right type of cooling for it. ... show more
