After my old lamp failed, I was looking for a lamp which, most importantly, used replaceable bulbs. LEDs last a long time, but not forever, and most of what I found on sale were units with built-in bulbs that would be extremely difficult to replace. This one lets you actually put in the bulb you like, instead of the one the manufacturer thinks you will. A couple of minuses. The "foot" switch that sits on the floor is a bit off. I would prefer to have a switch on the lamp itself, operated by hand. But not a huge thing, I can figure out a different switch mechanism easily enough. Additionally, the lampshade should have its closures at the very end. It doesn't, and that causes it to poof out a bit at the closure. Sure, I can put that toward the wall, but that's still something that should be fixed so that the lampshade is perfectly round. But all that said, it works well, it's easy to assemble (the threads were well designed and didn't try to cross-thread, and with something like this where you can't just go get a different bolt, that certainly matters!), and it works straight off. I just wanted a lamp, not something that would have a remote control or anything like that, and for that, this does the job. ... show more

As a college student attempting to furnish a rental with other college students, it can be very difficult to find nice products that are not ridiculously expensive. This lamp has been so great that I ordered another and now use them in my apartment with my husband too. I will say that if you do not have the money to replace the lampshade then I might suggest buying the silver base that comes with the black lampshade. It’s very simple, but I actually really like the way that it looks. The white lampshade with the black stand is definitely not as nice looking, but both of them work equally well and are surprisingly sturdy. The lamp itself is very easy to assemble, but there is a strange error in the manual that seems to suggest that the cord could be strung through the base so that it doesn’t show coming out of the pole, but that is physically impossible. As shown in the photo, it has to come out of the bottom of the pole. Aside from that minor disappointment, this lamp is really wonderful. We use Bluetooth colored bulbs, but from my memory this lamp does not come with bulbs anyways. The step on and off is also really convenient, although we can turn our bulbs on from our phones. If you are wary of the price tag, I really believe that this lamp is a steal if you just need something simple and solid! ... show more

I never write reviews, but I was so impressed with the quality of this lamp for the price that I had to. It was heavy and sturdy and took less than 5 minutes to put together. The design is simple but still looks like it should cost three times what it did. Very happy with this purchase!
