I needed this to mount my depth finder on in my open bow. When I bought the boat, it had the smaller ball on it and it wasn’t holding the depth finder in place.     • Ball surface is too hard, will not grip like original
Unlike the genuine RAM mount ball that has a softer grippy surface, the surface of the ball on this mount is a harder material. This requires extreme tightening of the RAM arm to get it to grip somewhat. The genuine part it replaced(for a different chartplotter) required 1/2 the tightening force for a better grip. It feels like a well made part but the hardness of the ball surface makes it useless for my purposes. Returned and ordered the genuine RAM part. ... show more

    • Great sturdy base
I used this as the base for my DIY wall mount tablet holder and it holds really well. I used six wood screws on each side and it feels solid and very sturdy. The ball texture could be better though, it's not as textured as for my liking. I have an arm connected to this, the ball that came with that arm has a rubbery texture that holds very steady even if I don't tighten the screw too much, unlike this one that moves a bit. So in order for it to stay, I need to tighten the screw a bit more. Maybe I'm nit-picking a bit but anyways, this is still a very good base for my tablet holder. ... show more
