  • False Description, NOT HOUSE PARTY COMPATIBLE
Color: Black Style: Qi Wireless Charger Pattern Name: Speaker
Update: a year after sending the 1st one back, i thought id give it a second try, because i wanted to complete my house party speaker collection. I received this speaker, and like the first time, it is not house party compatible. It is true wireless pairing, and this is rediculous that Altec Lansing support team seems completely dumbfounded that this has happened. They swear to me that this speaker is not true wireless pairing, and they are absolutely certain this speaker is house party pairing. It is not. The packaging it came in says true wireless..these are 2 completely different systems, and this has got to be one of the stupidest mistakes/mixups/confusions ive ever seen. Their own support doesnt even know what to say when i show them the package it came in. It contradicts everything they "know" about their own product. The Description here on Amazon once again contradicts itself. In the main description up top, it says "pair up to 50 speakers" and then further down, it later states "pair up to 2 speakers". So which is it? I can't believe Amazon has allowed this keep happening. Do they even read the reviews, Because this is a big deal when the product they're selling is falsely advertised. Last year, the package came with a printed fake label glued over top the original, as u can see in the pictures. And this year, same speaker comes with a new label altogether which states true wireless pairing, while the altec lansing website, and the description here on amazon claims it is house party pairing. These are 2 big differences. And this is costing Amazon, not Altec Lansing. Because Altec Lansing has offered to do nothing to fix this. However, they did mention I would need to pay shipping costs to resolve the issue. What? U guys at Altec Lansing are so confused, it's very obvious that the support team for this company has not a single bit of knowledge about Altec products. Instead, they are random people working from somewhere in the world that cannot answer any questions about Altec Lansing products unless u can provide them with the exact model number. Why? Because they need it to look up the information on the internet, because they know nothing about the product in which they claim to be the support team for. Don't get me wrong, theres a reason I gave this speaker another try. I have many, and I mean MANY speakers by Altec. They are all House Party Pairing. Which means I can use all my speakers at one time, all the time, as long as theyre within 100 feet of each other. And let me tell u, these speakers are all very good speakers..they sound great, they bump, they literally fill Any large or small space with pure rich clear thumping sound. The Lifejacket Jolt XL is the only one that I'd need to complete my house party pairing collection..but 2 times, with a year gap in between, this speaker has been a huge confusing mixup. It's a shame. Because if it werent for this one mistake-that clearly has not been resolved- I have to question the integrity of this company. I've spent thousands on their speakers. And im not rich. Far from it. I buy from this company because their speakers are the best on the market for the price. So I get the most out of my money. I have over 25 Altec speakers, and for the most part, all of them are all on 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Never had any issues, except for batteries wearing out. And I just replace the batteries myself when that happens. But now Altec isn't even making House Party Pairing speakers anymore. Which is another big disappointment. Times change, things age. I get it. But how can u allow the option for pairing up to 50 speakers one year, and then the next, no longer offer that option? That tells me this- if anyone like myself has spent alot of money taking advantage of being able to use up to 50 speakers wirelessly, anywhere, anytime, in any environment, u will soon realize u have wasted thousands on a speaker system that will soon be obsolete. Thank u Altec Lansing. Thank u for selling me a bunch of awesome speakers that will never again be available. Nor will Any new speakers be compatible . So if I want to ever upgrade any one of my 50 speakers with a newer one, ill have 49 other speakers that won't pair with the new one! Wow. Writing this review has just made me realize that I need to drop this company and sell the speakers I have while they're still in great working condition. I wont be buying another product from this company. If anyone is reading this review, learn from me. With Altec Lansing...your money is nothing more than their money if u buy their products. Once u have the product, and they have your money, your on your own. And let's hope the product they send u is the one they advertised. And a big Thank You to Amazon for having the customer care and support that they do. It's companies like Amazon that make all the sacrifices while companies like Altec hide in the background and do just fine while they keep raking in people's hard earned money. Altec doesn't lose nothing for thier mistake. Instead, Amazon will be the one absorbing the costs for returns/refunds/etc. All of which are clearly the result of Altec Lansings lack of quality control, carelessness, and totally confused customer support that has never once been able to support me in even answering a simple question about the product they are supposed to "support". I bet their support team is also the exact same support team for all the other companies out there with awful customer care. It's too bad. I'm glad I bought this speaker again, only because It opened my eyes to what kinda company I've been supporting for the past 5 or 6 years... but not anymore. Altec just lost a very loyal customer. With that said, I'm sorry to Amazon that I have to return this speaker. AGAIN. I will not recommend this speaker or this company to anyone going forward. Original review: bought this because the description says "house party pairing." It is not. And the packaging has a printed fake label covering the original. I see after reading rhe reviews that this has happened to other people. Amazon should unlist this product until Altec Lansing can get it right. They have the most confused support team that really doesn't know anything about the product they sell. This is the 3rd time ive bought a speaker that says one thing on the box, and when i open it, its not what was described. Altec has great sounding speakers, but these are really awful mistakes that a company should not be having, considering your products are very expensive. People spend their hard earned money on your products, the least u can do is get your products & descriptions right. ... show more

  • Superior speaker
Color: Black Style: Qi Wireless Charger Pattern Name: Speaker
I have been a fan of altec lansing for years, my 2 older lifejackets wasn’t loud enough for my side by side. So I decided to get another style of their speaker. I purchased a hydra boom speaker thinking it would be loud enough and have a decent battery life. I was very disappointed with it! It had no tweeter sound whatsoever. Battery life was very poor. So, I started looking at the older speakers from altec, I found that this speaker had a tweeter, so I ordered it from Amazon since it was on sale. I was pleasantly surprised at the sound, and it’s loud enough to be heard in my side by side.I was so pleased with it that I ordered another one! My only gripe is they are hard to get paired together, and battery life isn’t the best but it’s acceptable. If you want a speaker that has more than bass sound then I recommend it! If you only looking for bass sound then I would buy another brand of their speakers. I think altec lansing is leaning more toward bass sounding speakers now other than music. ... show more

  • Great speaker
Color: Black Style: Qi Wireless Charger Pattern Name: Speaker
This is my second speaker, the first one was a life jacket 2, it was amazing and I even tried to drown it in a pool 6 feet deep (don’t recommend anyone doing) but it didn’t even skip a beat. It’s still kicking around somewhere but I lost it and I’m about to go on a trip so I had to get another. The sound quality is really good when you make your expectations realistic to what you’re getting which is a wireless charging waterproof speaker for under $100. I knew immediately when I lost my other speaker I was going for an Altec Lancing speaker because the last one exceeded my expectations. I will update this in a few months if there are any issues, but if this is unedited then nothing but excellence has occurred ... show more

  • Finally, a speaker that measures up to my Jawbone Big Jambox!
Color: Black Style: Qi Wireless Charger Pattern Name: Speaker
I’m always on the hunt for a speaker that has great full range sound that’s also affordable. Many years ago I spent about $300 on a Jawbone Big Jambox. For a party/house speaker, it really did the job. However, over the years it’s got a bit beat up, and the battery life has been diminishing. For a few years now, I’ve been hunting for a budget, rugged, full range speaker that I can listen to all types of music on.. from classical, hip hop, to rock. I’ve tried many of the budget speakers here on Amazon, and they’ve all fallen short — weak lows without any punch, flat mid/upper ranges.. but I’ve finally found my Big Jambox replacement in this speaker. To be specific, this is a review for the Altex IWM790L LifeJacket XL Jolt with lighting effects. Mind you, I’ve only unboxed and been playing with it for a day.. but dang, I’m very happy. The default Spotify flat EQ settings sound good. But man, when I dial up the bass on the EQ, it sounds a lot fuller.. and when I place it against my wall, it really resonates beautifully. So, if you’re a bass head that wants crazy thumping, this speaker can deliver, especially if you dial up the lows on an equalizer. The wireless charging feature (rest phone on top to charge) is nifty, but not why I bought it. Also, wireless charging does work even with an Otterbox Defender case on an iPhone 10 Max, but not on my iPhone 11 Max with an Otterbox Defender. Not surprised, as the case is thick as a bank vault door. I like the fact that you can charge while using the speaker. Something that you could also do with the Big Jambox. Makes a difference to have the thing charged all the time! As for the ruggedness — I haven’t torture tested it yet, but based on all of the review videos on YouTube, I’ll trust that when I’m in a deluge or drop this into a puddle of mud, it’ll be just fine. I’ve listened to a bunch of tracks that I know very well.. from classical to hard rock, and it really is impressive. You won’t be disappointed. ... show more
