Format: Alive III

Description

Kiss: Paul Stanley (vocals, guitar); Gene Simmons (vocals, bass); Eric Singer (vocals, drums); Bruce Kulick (guitar). Additional personnel: Derek Sherinian (keyboards). Recorded live in Cleveland, Ohio; Detroit, Michigan; Indianapolis, Indiana during Kiss' 1992 "Revenge Tour." Judged against Kiss' previous Alive! albums, Alive III doesn't hold up particularly well. Instead of relying on raw energy and ridiculous but dynamic showmanship, the band plays like the professionals they are, performing a competent set that never catches fire. However, if Alive III is judged against Kiss' late-'80s and early-'90s records, it holds up very well. By cutting away the filler that plagued their studio records, the band is left with a consistently entertaining batch of songs served up with style. It might not be as exciting as the first two Alive albums, but Alive III provides more thrills than most of the group's records of the previous decade. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine

  • Great live compilation of a veteran band
Alive 3 has an excellent set list performed by what I regard as the second best Kiss lineup behind the original. Bruce Kulick and Eric Singer are polished pros who compliment Gene and Paul quite well. (Yes I’m sure parts have been redone in the studio as is done on many live albums.) It’s great hearing later classics like “Creatures of the Night” and “Domino” alongside new takes like “Watching You” and “Detroit Rock City.” Even their 70s disco hit “I Was Made for Loving You” takes on an AC/DC stomp. The vinyl edition sounds great. All in all a very enjoyable release and more than worthy of your time. ... show more

  • KISS RULES!!!!!
Actually my second purchase of this cd, played the first one so much the cd developed cracks around the center hole causing issues. Love the original members but Eric Singer's drumming to so heavy and fits better than Peter's, sorry Peter : (
