  • See it, you'll be a believer
Color: Black
I'm not impressed with this camera; "astonished" would be closer to the mark. Purchased this Akaso EK 7000 based on a recommendation from a friend of my wife's, and I just can't believe what this little camera can do for the money we put into it. As a caveat, we're not pushing the camera to the limits of human endurance by skydiving, mountain biking, scuba diving or the like. But it works extremely well for our needs. My wife competes in dog obedience training, and likes to review videos of her dog's performance after trials and matches. Finding someone willing and capable to record her session in the ring on a cellphone is always difficult. Most of the other dog handlers are preoccupied with their dogs, and it's not good ring etiquette to approach too close to the show ring to shoot video, since that will be a distraction. She noticed another handler retrieving a tiny camera from just outside the corner of the ring after her session and asked about it. Turned out to be this little EK 7000, and that handler was very enthusiastic about what it could do. When my wife asked for it for Christmas I was skeptical, so I spent a lot of time researching this and several other cameras. While there were other cameras that were able to do what the Akaso could do, and possibly even more, they were all at least two to three times as expensive. So I went ahead and gave this to my wife for Christmas. We gave it a full practice run-through yesterday, mounting it on a short tripod at the corner of the ring. I used the 1080p 30fps setting instead of the 4K mode to get more storage space and lengthen battery life. Had the camera on for about an hour, shooting about a dozen videos of one to three minutes, plus a number of photos, and with wi-fi on for a while, and off for a while. I tried starting and stopping the camera manually, then used the phone app, and lastly used the remote for a while. All worked well, even from about 20 yards away. Back home I hooked up the camera to our 55-inch TV (via a micro-HDMI cable, not included), and we were both very pleased with the video quality. Since it's a wide-angle lens, people (and dogs) are naturally pretty small at about 15 yards, but the high video quality means that when you put the video on a large screen you can still see all the details. The sound was a little muddy, but a huge overhead furnace was running right over the camera which made audio pickup difficult. The battery lasted for at least two hours with the camera on, and was recording or playing back videos later for most of that time. The little charger will charge two batteries at a time, and seemed to need only an hour to take the battery from fully discharged to fully charged. (Lights on the charger progress from magenta to red to blue while charging.) You can also charge the battery just by connecting a USB cable to the camera, which we did while transferring files to the computer. I used four different video viewers on the our computer to watch the videos, and all showed the clips with no problem. Settled on VLC Media Player to access slow motion and other features. There are so many attachment options included in the box that I can't imagine you won't be able to mount it any where you wanted. I used the frame with bottom and top threaded sockets to mount it to a regular camera tripod, and it worked great. The camera is so tiny that I've taken to putting it back into its waterproof case for additional protection before stowing it in the camera bag. A couple notes: We installed the Akaso DV app on a Samsung Galaxy S5 cellphone. It worked almost perfectly, although at one point I changed modes at the same time I rotated the phone, and that, or some gremlin, locked up the app tight with a black screen. Force-stopped the app and restarted it, and had no further problems. The app itself is great, giving you the ability to start and stop the camera from a distance via a wi-fi connection, (be sure to disconnect the phone from any other wi-fi networks first), and actually see what the camera is recording live. While recording, the camera flashes a little red light on the top of the camera, but it's not visible from anywhere but right above the camera. This means that when using the remote, if you don't keep careful track of your button pushes, you may stop a recording already in progress when you meant to start one. The phone app shows you what the camera is doing, but running the wi-fi on the camera shortens the battery life somewhat, according to the manual. In the mode we were using, 1080p @ 30fps, the video was using about 106mb/minute. Unless my math is off, that means a 64gb card will store close to ten hours of high-quality video. One gotcha is that if you do change out the batteries, the camera forgets the date and time and you have to re-enter that if you want to tag your files accordingly, which is a bit of a hassle. Would I recommend this camera to a friend? Absolutely. Would I buy it again? Only if we lose the little guy, a definite possibility with something so small. I'd better go write our name and phone number on it with a Sharpie right now! ... show more

  • Not bad and worth every penny
Color: Black
I have a GoPro Hero4 and my brother a Hero11. I decided to buy the Akaso EK7000. I must say. With all the accessories it brings and for the price. That's a win for Akaso. As you know the Hero series cost over $400 and if you want accessories, obviously will raise the price. Akaso is cheaper on price and brings all the accessories needed. Does not bring a selfie stick but you can buy that anywhere. The size of the camera is pretty close to the GoPro. It is very easy to use and brings a remote which you strap on your wrist. Stability is not bad at all. Waterproof yes and make sure you install the right backplate. 2 slits mean it's not waterproof and without is waterproof. The camera functions very well and so far I love it. I will have a video when I actually use it with my motorcycle. If you want to save money and don't want to spend hundreds, just buy the Akaso and you won't regret it ... show more

  • The waterproof case worked like a charm and was totally waterproof
Color: Blue
I was skeptical about this camera based on some of the reviews and it's heavily discounted price when compared to the GoPro. I bought it to take on a tropical vacation and needed it for scuba and snorkelling and other water activites as well as vacation photos. Overall, I was very impressed with everything associated with the product. There were a few minor issues and limitations that I will mention. 1. The waterproof case worked like a charm and was totally waterproof. I had no issues with leaks as some of the 1 star reviews had stated. There is a rubber ring that seals the case to the case door which makes the unit waterproof. I was always mindful when closing it to make sure I didn't pinch it. I could see how the rubber could be damaged or kinked which could lead to loss of the seal. However, one of the two bracket mounts on the bottom that you use to mount the case to everything with was broken in shipping. I tried to fix with JB Weld because I didn't have time to buy a replacement before the trip. The JB Weld didn't hold though. What did hold? The one mount. It lasted all week being used multiple hours per day. I will buy a replacement though. 2. This is a GoPro style action camera so you don't have the ability to zoom or adjust picture settings. I knew this coming in so not really a complaint, just throwing it out there. With it's wide angle lens, taking pictures of a person from over 20 ft away or so is mostly a picture of that persons surroundings. But with 12 MP, you can crop them later anyways. 3. As one of the reviews stated regarding underwater photography, I purchased the SandMarc underwater filters to go on this case knowing that some modifications needed to be made. I really wish this product had a filter kit that was made for it but as that other review stated, 30 mins with a dremel and I had a perfect fit. If I had messed up though, I would have been out a $25 filter kit. 4. The iSmart DV app works really well. You sync with the cameras internal wifi and can remotely control the camera or transfer images/videos. One complaint though is that you can't change where on your phone the files are transferred to. It creates a iSmart folder in your DCIM folder. It would have been really nice to save to my phones SD Card. This might not seem like a big deal but... 5. Also not an actual gripe but this camera shoots very uncompressed files. 12MP images are around 2 MB per image and in 1080p 60fps, the video (mov) files come in at around 200 MB per minute. All of this is good as you are left with a better product for post production if you are in to that but transferring files via Wifi takes about as long to transfer as they take to record. And since my phone memory is always low, I have to transfer all my transfers to my SD Card. So If I shoot an hour of video, I have quite a bit of time ahead of me to transfer all the files. I didn't try any other method of transfer though because I didn't bring a laptop. In the end, the Wifi is very useful, just have to be patient. 6. Batteries last less than an hour if on and being used in almost any mode. I took a bunch of timelapse pictures to make little videos out of on my vacation. If you wanted to do a sunset timelapse, you have to wait til the sun's pretty low or change batteries really fast when the first one dies, lol. I was unable to get any good sunrise or sunset timelapses. I did get some sweet kayaking time lapses though. As for the batteries, consider this to set your expectations. If you do a 30 minute kayak trip taking 5s timelapse pics, then transfer them all to your phone via wifi, that's pretty much it. Time to change the battery. Other than that, not only was I pleased with the camera in all of it's functionalities and found it easy to understand how to use, I was extremely impressed when considering the price. I imagine GoPro hero 5's are awesome, but I can't imagine they are over 5 times as awesome as this product. Also noteworthy, I never used the 4K video option. When I saw how big the 1080p files were, I just left it at that. Very good quality videos though. ... show more

  • Great new toy!
Color: Black
I have been wanting an action cam of some sort for quite some time. I just never liked the large price tag attached to them bc I’m clumsy and lose things. This comes with everything you need in ways of attachments and you can’t beat the price. The filming quality is great for this price point even when compared to more pricey action cams. It’s durable and way easy to use. ... show more

  • Nice camera, great quality for price
Color: Black
So far, I have used this as a web cam and it works great for that. I have also used it a bit waking around and it seems nice and stable. I'm planning on using it to record wrestling matches this season and it seems like it will be great for that too.
