  • Preferred D05 over D03
The first thing to understand about either of these is that they are dac-amps. When you are using digital inputs the signal stays digital all the way through except for the final output to the speakers. There are just a few amps that work this way but as digital inputs become the most common sources this is truly ideal because you are avoiding both dac adc conversions when using a digital amplifier - and you don't need a high end dac to get good sound. The downside is that the analog input must go through an analog dgital conversion and that is not a strong point of this amp. So as you read others' comments its critical to know what inputs they used. And, of course, bluetooth is not hifi either. I will say that using the digital inputs both of these are truly excellent. I have had many amps including an Aiyama A07, Sabaj A10, Hypex digital, several tube amps, and several class AB amps. In terms of top to bottom detail both the Hypex and D03/D05 are standouts. I did not find the Aiyama A07 as good in soundstage and 'rhythm'. Sabaj high end feels more digital. But don't forget that dac's can make a huge difference. I have some high end dac's including an RME and Marantz DAC1 so I know what a decent dac should do. The precision, imaging, and soundstage you get from D03/D05 are competitive. I highly doubt there's a significant power difference between them despite the specs since they both provided the same power supply (same as the A07 also). They had more power than I could use with the KEF Q100's I was driving. Sound of the two were very similar with the top end feeling a bit more lively with the D05. Both provide an exciting, detailed sound that felt 3d with the instruments suspended in space. I like the aesthetics and creature comforts of the D05 much more, however. Its a bit lower, longer, and narrower with a larger volume knob and more space for the speaker posts on the back. When you change settings the display changes so that you can see what's changed from a distance. There's a loudness contour that's useful at low volumes. And you can blank out the screen if you want. I haven't found any use for the eq settings. Note that a long press on the display button switches to hi gain which is about the same gain as the D03. The D05 is well worth a few extra bucks! Edit 4/18 I've played some with the equalizer now and find it helpful. I particularly like the 'country' setting which add just a bit of warmth and reduction in treble. Its really a gentle room curve. Jazz and light rock setting are nicely understated. The heavy rock and rap are just too much bass though. Interestingly, the subwoofer out is unchanged by the equalizer but it is impacted by the tone controls. Unfortunately, if you turn the eq off and then back on it skips to the next eq setting. That's a pain since I really only use the country setting There are two loudness settings.; 1 is more gentle but hits the upper bass more while 2 impacts low bass more with little effect on upper bass. Loudness, tone control, and eq settings are independent and can all be used at the same time. All these were tested with REW and a calibrated mic - not just my ears. ... show more

  • super compact, powerful amp and easy to use
I must admit this amp is very powerful for its size and appearance. When I first got this amp, my purpose was to use it to power a pair of garden's speakers which are rated at 8omhs each. However, when I was testing this amp, I hooked up a pair of loudspeakers, which are rated at 4ohms each and has a maximum 300w rating, each speaker has a 12" built-in woofer driver with dual 3" cone midrange drivers, so they are pretty loud. Those speakers were hooked up with to a full size Digital Receiver 5.1 channels and when hooked up to this amp, the sound produced were pretty much the same (about 95% loudness). I was very impressed with its performance and power handling on such loud-speakers. Beside that, this amp has built-in bluetooth so it was super convenience because all I need is that amp and the speakers and use my phone or any media devices that has bluetooth connection to stream music or podcasts. There's also some pre-programmed sound processing mode, as well as manual controls for bass and trebble, which does have a significant impact on the sound output, however, those features are only accessible with the remote control, so make sure to keep that remote control and don't lose it... Overall, I'm quite please with functionalities, performance and its form factor, it's just a little on the expensive side (where as I've seen some of similar products are a little lower price, but I'm sure you get what you paid for). ... show more

  • Nice tiny class d amp for small bedroom setup/near field
This is a pretty typical little class d Chinese amp. Sound is nothing special, build quality is also cheap, but having a remote is a big bonus. Plus you can turn off the display completely. Just don’t expect to be replacing your big receiver with one of these. The included power supply is 32v 5amp. So that’s 160w total at 4ohms if that’s a true rating on the power supply. So 80w a channel is all your getting w the included power supply, run typical 8ohm speakers and half that again. 40w a channel seems realistic. Full blast gets decently loud, but this isn’t gonna blow you out of the room. Got this for a tiny setup in my bedroom running some Jamo 803s just for tv sound via optical. Keep your expectations in check and you’ll be happy. The tiny form factor of these amps is the only real benefit of going with one of these versus a standard stereo receiver. ... show more

  • Impressive little amp
This was the second amp I purchased to run a pair of Polk Atrium 5 speakers under a small pool pavilion. The first amp (vendor unnamed) had issues with Bluetooth connectivity beyond 5 feet and one channel or the other would drop out randomly. THIS amp, however, exceeded my expectations! Bluetooth range far beyond spec, zero dropout, and no issues AT ALL in hundred degree+ heat (not: it's under a roof for rain protection and shade). Sound quality is better than expected and it provides far better frequency response than the first amp I tried. Punchy bass and clear highs! Love the front display and the remote control. Honestly, I love this little amp and definitely recommend it. ... show more

  • Protect your speakers
This amp sounds pretty good if you compliment it with outstanding gear. The deal breaker for me was the sonic glitches that were sharp, resonant, intermittent and were so impactful that I questioned if they would destroy my Triangle Bro 3 speakers. I returned the amp and my new Iotavx has no signs of spikes or glitches. You pay for what you get. ... show more
