  • Excellent value, but understand...
This refractometer feels good in the hand, is easy to use, has no batteries and provides accurate, consistent results. However, you have to understand that if you are using to check the brix/specific gravity of a fermentation, the result will differ from a floating hydrometer. This is due to the additional effect of alcohol in the wort, which affects refraction more than the floating hydrometer. For example, my nearly fully fermented mead SG measured 1.050 on this refractometer, but indicated 1.010 on my floating hydrometer. I rechecked with 2 other refractometers and the results were consistent. The apparent inaccuracy was not the result of a faulty refractometer. ... show more

  • Super clear. Only did a quick test though.
Currently in between a few fermentation projects, no new ones to actually be able to use this for its intended purpose, but I DID stick a few drops of an in-progress wine on there and it gave me a super sharp, clear line right about where I'd imagine the results should be. I'll probably remember to update this review when I've had the chance to actually use it for calculating ABV. ... show more

  • easy to use, accurate.
An inexpensive but accurate measuring device, easy to use. Can check sugar content of fresh squeezed orange juice. (Good for diet comparison to store bought juice.)

  • I use this alot
several times a week i use this to measure the sugar content in a frozen drink slurpee type thing we serve. it works fairly well! I like it, took a bot to understand how to focus it the end doesnt rotate it just pulls out and pushes in.

  • Good value
Good price. Accuracy seems good enough so far (brewing beer), but I'm a novice and can't really yet tell. I couldn't get it to focus at first--turns out it was screwed all the way in from the factory and the rubber outer boot was slipping instead of turning the focus. Once I figured that out, I temporarily removed the boot and "unlocked" it. Then it worked fine. Minor nitpick: the range is a bit larger than what I need for beer. This makes the gradations really close together which makes it hard to read. But, they all seem to have the same range. ... show more

  • Love, love, love
Love everything about this. Used for honey I was afraid it had too much moisture content but found out it was perfect. Was able to get Honey into jars.
